The subtext is crystal clear: Trump expected Cuellar to repay the pardon with total loyalty and political obedience. When Cuellar didn’t deliver, Trump is now punishing him. This is textbook quid pro quo – using the pardon power as a bribe for political favors. Trump essentially admitted he gave Cuellar a get-out-of-jail-free card in exchange for expected allegiance. The man who spent years screaming about the “Biden crime family” just openly revealed how his own “favors” work: do what I want or I’ll destroy you. This is what Trump’s “justice” looks like. Admissions of criminal behavior, with no shame or scruples. It must stop.
