At Gillas Lane Primary, the new free breakfast club is delivering calmer classrooms, higher standards and happier children. Labour is rolling out breakfast clubs across England to give every child the best possible start to the school day.

The Tories haven't tabled a debate on education for the King's Speech. I wonder why? Maybe they don't want to talk about all the things Labour are doing to give children growing up in our country the best start in life – so here's your reminder. 👇

@catkinson80 Clueless. Inflation is literally 50% higher than when you lied your way in to office.

With this Labour Government, Britain has seen inflation come down, six interest rate cuts and borrowing fall. The PM’s steady leadership means we are better able to protect families, support businesses, work with allies and face global challenges.

We delivered the biggest piece of child protection legislation in a generation. Now Labour's Education For All Bill will support children with SEND to get the support they need more quickly, close to home, without a fight. We will enable every child to achieve and thrive.

When I say every child should have the opportunity to go as far as their talent takes them, I mean every single child. Children who grew up in poverty, with special educational needs, those who can't get a job. We back them: every young person struggling to find work will get a guaranteed offer of a job, training, or a work placement.

@Keir_Starmer Why didn’t you mentioned that it’s been under government control for over 12 months already at a cost of over £1m in taxpayers money PER DAY. Resign.

Hope resides in our young people. But Brexit has held them back. They should be able to live, work and study in Europe, which is exactly what our Youth Experience Scheme will deliver. This is part of rebuilding a stronger relationship with Europe. That's the Labour choice.

@afneil Absolutely Andrew. How many times in the “reset” speech will the usual “my Dad was a toolmaker” line be wheeled out?

So far Starmer’s efforts to save his skin have been a classic case study in how not to save your skin: The most unpopular Labour PM in history (Starmer) calls in aid the second most unpopular Labour PM in history (Brown). With most Labour MPs despising you and willing to grant you, at most, a civilised stepping down over some months, you say you’ll be in power for a decade. Labour MPs’ worst nightmare. You commission a propaganda film of you, Brown, Rachel Reeves and Harriet Harman looking smug and self-satisfied in the Downing Street garden, complete with meaningful music. How divorced from public opinion can you be? You signal you’re fresh out of new blood (Brown? Harman?) and new ideas (getting close to the EU is the best you can come up with — hardly a game changer). You think a ‘reset’ speech (again!) can turn things round? You’re truly delusional. THE END.

@manairport @lal537 Biggest scam of all time. People have busy lives and sometimes forget to do things. It’s not avoidance or evasion. It’s just forgetting. £60 fine for a 100 second drop off. Shameful.

It’s important that we reflect and respond to these results - we haven’t done enough to offer people hope for the future. In the coming days I’ll be setting out the path ahead.

We must respond to the message that voters have sent us and break with the status quo once and for all. We must confront the big challenges the public face with real answers. That is how we will deliver the change that people are desperate for and build a stronger and fairer country. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

@DavidLammy The last thing the British people need now is 3 more years under the most unpopular and hopeless prime minister in history.

As these tough election results come in, we thank and pay tribute to our councillors who have served their communities brilliantly for many years. The last thing the British people need now is Labour turning inward and losing focus on them. Keir Starmer won a huge mandate less than two years ago. Now we must get on with delivering change faster for the British people.

These have been a very difficult set of elections. I’ve felt that in Sunderland. But the answer is not to turn inwards. It’s to take responsibility, come together & face up to the challenges ahead. Keir has won before, he can win again. We need to deliver change, not chaos.

These are tough election results for Labour and I’m sorry to all of those colleagues who have lost their seats. Keir Starmer won a mandate to change our country. We must get on with delivering that mandate - and show how politics can improve people’s lives for the better.
