Tomorrow, I return to the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for what could be the final chapter of this case.
Four of the five charges against me have already been dismissed. Tomorrow, my legal team will argue that the remaining charge cannot stand because of the constitutional protection afforded to political communication.
This isn’t just about me.
It’s about whether Australians can engage in political expression on matters of public importance without fearing criminal punishment simply because their views are controversial or unpopular.
Whatever your politics, the principles at stake extend far beyond one person or one case. The outcome has the potential to shape how political speech is protected in this country.
Thank you to everyone who has stood beside me throughout this journey. Your encouragement, prayers and support have meant more than you know.
