I say this as an outsider: This is an internal debate, but I should note that there are many people who are not hard liberals who nevertheless cannot stomach going whole hog on religion, a large number of moderates. They need somewhere to go, too.

Progressive Christianity does not work doctrinally or sociologically. Doctrinally, once you embrace it, you no longer have a faith that resembles orthodox Christianity. Sociologically, if Christianity is just a more emotional version of what MSNBC already told you, you don’t need to get up on Sunday morning to hear it. @AviWoolf Seminary takes 3-4 years for most, it’s rigorous, we call it “cemetery” for a reason.
It’s expensive for the same reason why law school is pricey, the problem, is that pastors take out loans to pay for it, and then are paid worse than rural teachers.

@AviWoolf Then the left/liberal church needs to stand against those things as well, especially in our modern context (Polygamy, casual sex, porn, prostitution) and guess what you can do all of that from a feminist religious perspective.
Christianity is the OG feminist movement.

At the same time they probably read scripture more than others on a daily measure
