Arts retirement scene vs golf and drinks retirement scene
Justin@KeystoneObsrvr

@JosephSzymanski New Mexico has a certain cultural coding and attraction among older white liberal retirees in the same way Arizona has that among older conservative retirees.

@ReubenR80027912 @redsteeze Some of that is good: Iran, Venezuela, Cuba Some of that is bad: Tariffs Some of it is stupid: his Arc, ballroom, and putting gold sticky stuff from hobby lobby all over the West Wing

@ReubenR80027912 I thinks it’s also how @redsteeze puts it. Trumps in YOLO mode, he doesn’t care anymore. And he certainly doesn’t care about 2026 or 2028. All he’s doing now is the stuff he wanted to do in his first term.

Yes. And this is what remains so strange about the “management” of Trump The man LIVES to be a male Joan Rivers, pulling ppl aside and being catty AF about “terrible” things & ppl. His McDonalds photo op was this…but he does far less of this than you’d imagine
carlo@carlo_versano

@ReubenR80027912 He should be walking the TSA lines at like hartsfield and pulling people out to fly home on AF1. Major missed opportunity

@squirrelspcsuit @AviWoolf In the last 200 years alone, we’ve seen: The debates over slavery (don’t ask the SBC why they exist) The arrival of Mormonism Debates over women in the church and in ministry Debates reacting to the industrial and sexual revolution, homosexuality, and now the Internet

@squirrelspcsuit @AviWoolf Interestingly, there seems to be a pattern of church fissures happening every 500 years or so The debate that led to the council of Nicea The great schism The Protestant reformation

@TimLovejoy9 @AviWoolf The problem (and I say this as someone who frequently makes your point to people in my own churches) is that there is no moderating force at the institutional level in the mainlines after a century of pushing those people out

@AviWoolf Seminary takes 3-4 years for most, it’s rigorous, we call it “cemetery” for a reason. It’s expensive for the same reason why law school is pricey, the problem, is that pastors take out loans to pay for it, and then are paid worse than rural teachers.

@AviWoolf I’d argue that they don’t turn it down because they suffer from the same issue as the Dems (and the GOP on abortion) they would rather be “right” than persuade.

@AviWoolf Seminary is very expensive (I say that from experience) Therefore seminaries bring in upper middle class white kids (aka libs) It’s not the seminaries making them liberal, they get there liberal

@AviWoolf Then the left/liberal church needs to stand against those things as well, especially in our modern context (Polygamy, casual sex, porn, prostitution) and guess what you can do all of that from a feminist religious perspective. Christianity is the OG feminist movement.

@AviWoolf Id the liberal church wants to take a different position on homosexuality, ie homosexuality in the Roman and ancient era is different than the modern concept, and Paul is for the most part condemning things like adultery, orgies, rape, abuse, polyamory, excess…

@AviWoolf @Ejmiller25 I’ll think about it Avi, but my guess, those are traditions that preach that scripture s the Word and not debatable to a more strict degree. At the same time they probably read scripture more than others on a daily measure
