How did Stearns go from doing what he did in Milwaukee to doing this? Or does he get too much credit for one lucky trade (Yelich) and one signing that worked out really well (Cain)?
Good Fundies Brian@GoodFundies

Stearns became GM in Milwaukee 10/2015. The team was real bad. By 2018, they won 96 games and made the NLCS. The best players on that team were Yelich (trade), Cain (FA), Shaw (trade), Aguilar (waivers), Jeffress (trade), Hader (predecessor trade). Mostly him. Full credit.

@F_Piombo89 How about if you want to replace your 1B and emphasize Run Prevention, you choose to sign players that, idk, actually played 1B and support said Run Prevention. That would work a little better than signing a bad middle infielder that can’t stay healthy. But keep making excuses…

Mets fans complain that they are tired of losing that it's been 40yrs since they last won a WS and want to see a championship. Yet those same fans are still crying over a core that never won anything and supporting below average players like Vientos or Baty. So what is it?

@F_Piombo89 Yeah because watching debacle is light years better 😂 … and your boy Stearns is supporting these below average players by running them out there everyday.

@bcnyc23 @Houseofyogi Oh, so 2 months of mid-high gas prices after record lows caused an Airline to go bankrupt? Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound?

@Houseofyogi You are being ridiculous. Spirit airlines died because of high cost of jet fuel due to the Trump administration. They had a plan to exit bankruptcy in march, but the doubling of oil meant that they needed hundreds of millions of cash they did not have.

Spirit Airlines died tonight at the hands of the socialist crusader, Elizabeth Warren She must be so proud to add another casket to her achievements. Tonight at 3am, Spirit turns off the lights. 14,000 jobs gone. 30+ smaller airports lose service. JetBlue offered $3.8 BILLION in cash to buy Spirit in 2022. Shareholders, flight attendants union, literally everyone voted yes. The combined company would have held 9% of the US market against a Big 4 that already owned 80%. For anyone who understands numbers: 9% isn’t a monopoly against 80%. Warren said no. She wrote letters. She pressured Buttigieg. Biden’s DOJ sued. A federal judge killed the deal in January 2024. Her argument: the merger would cost consumers $1 billion a year. Now look at her collateral damage she dusts under the rug. 510 pilots gone in the months after. 1,800 flight attendants furloughed in December. 14,000 jobs in 2023. 7,500 last week. Zero tonight. And that’s just the people in Spirit uniforms. Catering goes. Fuel guys go. Baggage crews, gate agents, airport coffee shops, hotels and rental cars in 70 cities Spirit flew to. Every airline job carries 3 more on its back. 40,000 people out of work because of one woman’s moronic crusade against the market. And the math ain’t mathing. Spirit abandoned 90 routes during the death spiral. Fares on those routes are up 14% on average. Oakland to Newark: $135 to $288. Fort Myers to San Juan: $92 to $219. Kansas City to Newark up 66%. That’s reality. Not some BS number from a “study.” So @SenWarren tell me how this saves the consumer money? Cheap carriers in a market drop fares 21% across the board. Southwest did this in the 90s and saved Americans $68 BILLION over 20 years. Warren killed it. That’s what moronic politicians led by socialism do. Then with her own blind arrogance, she tweeted Spirit’s collapse is “a Biden win for flyers.” A win. 14,000 people are reading termination letters tonight. And she’s taking credit. This is socialism in 2026. A senator who’s never made payroll thinks she knows how to run a market better than the people who own and work in the company. She saved you a billion on imaginary paper. She cost you ten times that in real life. She didn’t protect consumers from anything. 14,000+ will go from working to welfare. She will make sure to blame billionaires, hardworking tax payers, AI, capitalism and whatever monster they will make up tomorrow hiding under your bed. Higher taxes. Fewer jobs. More expensive everything. She called it a win. I hope you enjoy winning.

And die they should, sport. The day of bailouts just to save jobs is coming to an end. They accomplish nothing but kicking the can down the road, which always ends up costing taxpayers even more. It also teaches businesses that if they run stupidly and it goes south, they can cry to the government to save jobs—hence they repeat the same actions. Let them die. Either they will be bought, or another will step in quickly to buy the routes and likely hire most of the staff, hopefully doing a better job moving forward. Apparently the existing folks didn't have that skill set.

@sal_licata Lindor just doing what he does every April. Very predictable. It then becomes “don’t let Bichette hurt you”. They need Soto and Polanco healthy for this offense to work. Moreover, Vientos should never be fielding ever again. Leave Baty at 1B.

Ben wants to tell everyone who’s watched the Mets go 45-69 since June 13 of last year that they “don’t know ball.” I’m sure he has some fascinating nerd stats to show us that the team is actually playing really well and them being total dog shit is simply an anomaly.
Ben Yoel@Ben_Yoel

I don’t know who I hate more - The people saying the wish the Wilpon’s would come back or the people who want to fire David Stearns. Probably the former because that’s just embarrassing to say out loud. The latter is just a case of people who don’t know ball.

@JustinCLeto His “company” failing is not of his fault. Year by year the team he has put together on paper is improving. He wasn’t brought in to magically turn it around in a year. He was brought in bc of who he is and what he has done in the game. The manager will go long before him.

@Ben_Yoel @MJS_in_CHI Polanco for Pete is a disaster. He’s older and incredibly injury prone. He hasn’t seen a full season since ‘21. Meanwhile Pete consistently plays 160 games a year.

@MJS_in_CHI I wanted to keep Díaz and so did Mets. He chose the Dodgers. That’s life. I also wanted Pete back but the Mets clearly didn’t want to commit the years to him. Calling Polanco a disaster because he’s been hurt for the first month of the season shows how little ball you know.

@TennisGuy_31 U realize he shouldn't be having to fall and flail over the floor to make routine plays right? A regular defensive 1B covers way more ground. Hes sloppy and lacks agility. He also can't throw.
