🇫🇷🗣️ Patrice Evra: “I’m not going to mention the player out of respect, but when I was playing for Juventus, one day we were on the club's plane. I went to the bathroom and in the last seat I saw a player crying. I thought: 'What's going on? We don't have internet here, maybe he lost a family member.' I asked him: 'Why are you crying, brother?'. He tells me: 'Because of this movie (The Notebook), this is the fourth time I've seen it and I always cry.' And I said to him: 'Okay...'. Honestly, I couldn't believe it, I went back to my seat with Carlos Tévez and said: 'Listen, don't say anything, but this guy is crying over a movie. Can you believe it?'. Tévez just laughed, but didn't say anything. When we landed, in the locker room, and in front of everyone, Tévez said: 'Boss, how is it possible that we're going to war with a player who cries over The Notebook?'. (Laughter). And my face just dropped in embarrassment. I never told him anything in secret again."

In many Australian pro sports, when a major record or milestone is achieved, thousands of fans storm the field (and go unpunished). A few hours ago, these absolutely wild scenes occurred when Alex Johnston broke the all-time record for the most NRL (rugby league) tries...

@alexmatthewsar @Bgal1486 @centralNRL With the rather major difference that the Warriors have agreed to release him to another NRL club, while Parramatta didn’t for Lomax.

Parramatta have reportedly put forward a three-year offer to Mitchell Barnett worth about $850,000 per season, which exceeds Brisbane’s reported two-year proposal valued at roughly $750,000 annually. Meanwhile, the Warriors are said to have identified Jordan Samrani as a player they would like from the Eels as part of a potential arrangement to allow Barnett an early release. @Danny_Weidler Not being able to bat the ball back with one hand is one of the most cooked rules they’ve come up with, and that’s saying a lot for the NRL…

BREAKING: NRL puts coaches on notice after round one. Here is the note they were sent: Coaches, the following points were reviewed by all Match Officials.   Disrupters  - The intent of this law is to provide a more competitive kick contest.       •    A player must make a genuine attempt to catch or legally bat back the ball.     •    If a player does not genuinely contest the ball, but instead jumps in the air to bat the ball back with one hand, and in doing so interferes with an opponent’s chance to catch the ball, the referee or Bunker may rule obstruction and award a penalty.   Rucks  - The referees have reviewed several slow rucks in R1 that, upon reflection, should have been a penalty or Set Restart depending on field position. You can expect a high focus in this area.   Contact on kickers – The referee will penalise contact on the kicker if deemed late, high, or dangerous.   Contact after the pass – I understand the need to apply pressure on the halves; however, there were several incidents in R1 where a half was contacted (late) after he had passed the ball and should have been penalised, but weren’t. This will be a focus area.   Roll Balls – A general reminder that all players are required to make a “genuine attempt” to play the ball back with their foot.   Baulking – If you baulk when feeding the scrum, trying to catch the opposition offside. You will be asked to feed the scrum again correctly. If you continue to do this, it may be seen as a repeated cynical act and be penalised or Sin Binned, depending on the circumstances.   Not clearing the ruck – The referees reviewed defenders who did not clear the PTB area at the completion of the tackle, which wasn’t actioned and should have resulted in a Set Restart.   Collisions, Takeouts, and Escorts– Across R1, there were several examples of players coming together in kick transition. These included escorting near the drop zone. You can’t take up a position, then move or shoulder towards someone competing for the ball. The collisions and takeouts occurred some distance from the drop zone. In some cases, it was the defender's fault; in others, it was the player chasing the kick. Regardless of how far away this occurs from the drop zone, you risk being penalised.   Captain and player communication  - In R1, some players approached the referee at the wrong time and repeatedly questioned the referee's decisions. There is an appropriate time for the Captain to speak with the referee. Please ensure that when the Captain speaks with the referee, it is to clarify the decision, not to dispute it. Please take the time to read the “Captains' Communication” sections from the Law Interpretations below.       •    The most practical times are after a try has been confirmed.     •    Half-time.     •    When time has been called off for an injury.

@Timpikefield @tkyles39 You don’t win championships by playing it safe. Seumalo is nearly 33, no guarantee he doesn’t drop off, especially on a 3 year deal.

@MarkDondero Just when we think your take can’t get any worse, you try to justify it by saying Regis was only really elite for two years? Are you high?

I knew I would get heat for this take and I don’t care. I love 0 but a CB is not worth that level of investment. JC Jackson was a baller for you and two years later was out of the league. 2015 Josh Norman in Carolina was a force, dud every year thereafter. Nnamdi Asuomugha made a career out of one good 2008 season. Steph Gilmore was DPOY then got schooled by Devante Parker on his way back down. How long did Jalen Ramsey “dominate” truly? One season? Revis was really “Revis Island” for what? Two years? If you can draft, you can find an adequate replacement without overspending especially with Maye’s payday looming.
Mark Dondero@MarkDondero

I would trade Christian Gonzalez. I do not believe in resetting the market at cornerback in the NFL. I just think it’s so hard to sustain that elite level of play at CB. There are a million examples of this over the years. Trade him now, get picks, don't let it get messy.

@MarkDondero If you locate a trade partner who’s “a CB away”, you’d be getting back a late first and late 2nd in your scenario. In what world is that good value for the Patriots?

Sauce Gardner netted the Jets two ones. The Chiefs got a one, a three and more for Trent McDuffie. I’d argue Gonzalez is better than both. If you locate the right trade partner who thinks they’re a CB away I bet you’d have a shot at getting a one and a two. Something big.
Dan Kelley@DanKelley66

@MarkDondero That's fair. What do you think they would get for him in a trade in your scenario?

@MarkDondero Why are you talking like he’s 28 and about to fall off? He’s a top 3 corner in the league at 23 years old

@PhilGould15 Gus, you can argue that it’s not a chargeable and/or sin bin type tackle (given the mitigating factors), but to argue he didn’t hit him in the head is just factually incorrect.

I would say you have to at least hit someone in the head first before you can be sin binned … Which he didn’t … Then, if there was some head contact, you would have to consider any mitigating circumstances … Which, in this case, would’ve been obvious … I’m sure the bunker and MRC would’ve acted on this tackle if they saw anything illegal or avoidable … Both passed the tackle, as they should …

@PhilGould15 Braidon burns got sent 10 in the bin for less in the game prior, how Crichton escaped the bin is unbelievable
