Especially with how toxic they were before, SasuSaku needed that in the manga. Novels aren’t enough when most fans only follow the main story.

Manga focuses on fights mainly cuz it‘s a shonen anime, novels write more about other things about the show like love, friendship, family. That‘s why you should read canon novels to understand any ship in naruto

If major development only exists outside the main story, the audience still experiences it as rushed. Sasuke’s trauma is valid, but Kishimoto skipping the rebuilding phase in manga is why the romance feels unearned.
