For too long, many petty traders across Enugu have borne the burden of daily tolls. Following the recommendations of the tax review committee we constituted in November, and in response to reports of unauthorized individuals collecting these levies, we have taken a decisive step to provide relief. I have ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of daily toll collections from petty traders without lockup shops. This decision is rooted in our commitment to fairness, empathy, and evidence-based governance. We recognize the weight this burden places on hardworking citizens, and we will continue to act in their best interest. Anyone found violating this directive will face the full weight of the law. Our traders, market women, and small business owners deserve dignity and support in their daily hustle. Tomorrow is here.

Are you new to Nigeria? Why are you making a mountain out of an anthill? All these discredited characters here have files with the EFCC and ICPC, and you know it. Those files are the collateral for their continued support of the dictator. Please don't give them the undeserved publicity. They don't merit it.

NEW: Crackdown: Governor Mbah abolishes daily market tolls, as police arraign 2 for Illegal revenue collection Governor Peter Mbah has made good his threat to wield the big stick on illegal revenue collectors and extortionists making life difficult for Enugu residents. While Mbah, today, announced an immediate and indefinite suspension of daily toll collection from who have no lockup shops, declaring it as illegal, the Enugu State Police Command on the same day arraigned two before an Enugu Magistrate Court for stealing and forgery of receipts and illegal revenue collection for the registration of native doctors in the state. Governor Mbah gave the order on the suspension of daily revenue collection from petty traders at a stakeholders' meeting on the clarification and harmonisation of revenue collection in markets across the state organised by the organised by the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service at the Old Government Lodge, Enugu. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, the governor said the action was in line with the new tax laws meant to support the poor, adding that a taskforce chaired by the SSG had been put in place to ensure maximum compliance, vowing that anyone caught collecting the 100 or 200 Naira daily toll revenue, either for the government or an individual, would face the full weight of the law. Mbah further charged the local government chairmen, traditional rulers, market leaders, the Presidents-General, and civil society organisations, and the public to report to the taskforce team any violation of the directive. While stating that the order did not affect traders in the lockup shops, who pay 30,000 or 36,000 Naira annually, he emphasised that the administration’s aversion to any actions that escalates the people's sufferings. Meanwhile, the police has arraigned Mr. Christopher Ifeanyi, aged 65, and Chinenye Ugwu, a female, before an Enugu North Magistrate Court over the registration of native doctors with forged receipts of Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State, presenting the same as genuine in order to defraud inspecting members of the public. The three-count charge sheet marked MEN/153C/2026, read, “That you Christopher İfeanyi 'm', Ugwu Chinenye 'f’ and others now at large on the 31st day of March, 2026 at Enugu North Local Government Secretariat, Enugu, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: Stealing, Forgery and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 495(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004. “That you and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did steal the total sum of Seven Hundred Thousand Naira (N700,000.00), property of Enugu State Government. “That you did forge Enugu North Local Government Receipts for registration of native doctors with intent that it may be used or acted upon as genuine, knowing same to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 436 and punishable under Section 443(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004.” The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges after which His Worship, O.S Chukwuani, adjourned the matter to May 8. The Police Prosecutor was Rosemary Ojobo, while State Counsel, Onyinye Ugwu, held a watching brief for the Department of Public Prosecution, DPP.

Most of the kids here in X don't really understand that Nigeria was a giant Nigeria was so wealthy that it was sending engineers, doctors and professionals across Africa and the Caribbean for free. Today, it's reduced to parents struggling to get a branded carton of Maggie and tomato sauce with the photos of the president to feed kids they can't afford If all you know is hot, dirty water to drink, then cold, dirty water is an improvement Some of us drank clean water from a public tap

I just got further disturbing information about this mortuary called a hospital. They don’t have oxygen, no fatal monitoring machine for babies, no water, no fuel for caesarian section. The mortality rate is so high. So many babies and mothers have perished in this hospital.

“I speak directly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu: with 90% of the National Assembly and over 30 of Nigeria’s 36 Governors in the APC, President Tinubu, what are you afraid of? “If you are convinced that you have done well for the people who voted for you, why are you afraid of a free, fair, and transparent electoral contest? If you are indeed the democrat that you claim to be, why are you bent on destroying all opposition political parties?” -Senator David Mark, Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)

The David Mark’s faction of the ADC really think they can use emotional reasoning and blackmail to bluff their way out of a purely legal conundrum they brought upon themselves. Unfortunately for them, law does not admit of sentiment. Decisions are based on facts, evidence, and the interpretation of laws, rather than on sympathy, emotion or political considerations. All those who are arguing about ‘status quo ante bellum’ are dispensing their time and energy chasing shadows and not the substance. This is because whether INEC recognises either faction for now is irrelevant: what is relevant is that there is a challenge regarding the take-over of the Party pending in court by a duly elected Deputy National Chairman. As long as that case remains in court, all the actions of either faction MAY end up being nugatory AFTER the deadline for nominations of candidates by INEC. The implication is that the ADC may end up having NO CANDIDATE for the election. Therefore, instead of vilifying INEC, the ADC should rather thank INEC for this timely action of de-recognising both factions BEFORE the close of the window for nominating candidates. It has duly forewarned the Party of the danger ahead and opened a window for them to either find a new, risk-free platform or ask for accelerated hearing of the case in court, or politically settle the leadership question in the Party quickly. To keep blaming imaginary opponents or INEC is purely mischievous: neither APC nor INEC prodded these grown adults and supposedly ‘experienced’ politicians to go and hijack an existing platform without sound legal advice and without properly sorting out every member of the leadership of that existing platform. They say they will proceed with their congresses and Convention despite INEC’s decision and the ruling of the Court of Appeal. That is fine by us. NEVER INTERRUPT YOUR OPPONENT WHEN HE IS MAKING A MISTAKE.

BREAKING: After the much-trumpeted and earth-shaking move of the Kano political titan, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the African Democratic Congress, the tide in Kano seems to have flowed the other way. Today, all members of the House of Representatives from Kano State are said to have moved to the All Progressives Congress. imagine if Bola Ahmed Tinubu had left the APC in 2022 - would the APC lawmakers have remained or follow his path of defection? It increasingly appears the ADC got the wrong man from Kano. Kwankwaso is not the man and time like always will prove us right.

Subsidy is not opposite of market price. A product is sold at x price (market price). Government provides fund in a Power Consumer Assistance Fund (N100m) to support lifeline customers to pay for market price. That is subsidy. Full cost-recovery, low expenditure for deserving consumers. Yes, I will support subsidy that is transparently administered & targeted. The Electricity Act signed by Tinubu has subsidy under S.122. It is called “Power Consumer Assistance Fund (PCAF). Typically, it is not operationalized. With 5% of $9m that is paid to Washington lobbyists you will fund PCAF. There is also cross-subsidy where there is a dual market structure. That’s the secret of China’s economic miracle. Producers recover all their costs, some consumers pay less than market price. Subsidy? Yes, for deserving consumers
JJ. Omojuwa@Omojuwa

Mr Chairman sir, using your subsidy argument from yesterday, will you advise the Abia government to subsidise power or sell it at market value? I’d appreciate an emphatic answer. PS: Congratulations on your role as Chairman of Abia Electricity Advisory Council. I wasn’t aware you were a government appointee again.

Sometime last year...i raised a point in supporting the abolishing of iri-ekpe (taking your brother's properties when he die without having a son) in my umunna (kindred)...It didn't scale through....I had to wait for elections of umunna to come...I contested for chairman and lost with 3 votes....then i was made the vice chairman unopposed....The opportunity to put an end to that taking over of a man's properties because he didn't have a son now lies in my own hand.... February 8th 2026 being umunna meeting... chairman travelled to China for business meetings and handed full authority to me to be proceeding on affairs of the meeting...I did what I have to do....I used just one meeting to put an end to that trash.....The only way you can inherit your brother's properties in my umunna currently is if he died without having a child at all and the wife die after and leaving no one else that's when you can now enter..... We will keep rising!!!!

Beyond Tribe and Tongue Nigeria is not the only nation shaped by a mosaic of tribes, languages, and religions. Around the world, several countries with similar diversity are striving—often successfully—to turn it into a source of strength rather than division. India serves as a classic example. Despite a landmass nearly three and a half times larger than Nigeria's and being home to many religions and cultures, India has evolved into a global benchmark for democracy. With a population exceeding one billion people and close to one billion registered voters—of whom about 700 million typically participate in elections—it has established a system widely regarded as free, fair, and credible. Its electoral processes are conducted with remarkable efficiency, often recorded in real-time and largely free of glitches. Beyond the ballot, India has emerged as a global leader in STEM—science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—while also transforming its healthcare system, extending medical insurance to over 50% of its vast population. These achievements are not accidental; they result from deliberate efforts to strengthen the centripetal forces—those elements that bind a nation together—rather than amplify the centrifugal impulses of division that continue to challenge us. When I advocate for the unity of Nigeria, I do so with deep sincerity and conviction. Our cohesion is an indispensable foundation for peaceful coexistence, sustainable development, and enduring national stability. I urge my fellow Nigerians to reflect on the example of India—a nation with a far larger population and an even more intricate web of ethnic and religious diversity—yet one that continues to forge unity from complexity. Ultimately, the true fault lines in our national life are neither tribal nor religious. No tribe or religion enjoys cheaper food in the market, nor is any group more secure than another. Our real challenge lies in competence, capacity, compassion, and the commitment to build a better country. Only then can we move beyond tribe and tongue and create a nation that truly works for all. With the right leadership, a new Nigeria is POssible. -PO
