@isobelr__ Which is obviously fine but if those policies aren’t Left in their nature, it’s fair for other Left parties to question their ability to lead and deliver a left govt and for their voters to be slow to transfer to them.

@Toby__Don Again I am surprised to be defending them BUT From what I gathered from their Ard Fheis they are deciding their policy from their members. Which is fair enough if it differs from other parties of the left imo.

NEW: Having previously conceded to the @galwayad, Noel Thomas (INDIRL) has now said he has not conceded the seat. The paper reports that INDIRL sources say they may request a recount if the final margin is small.

Another aspect of Noel Thomas' election is that its a kick in the shins for the idea of a rising left wing coalition after their Connolly campaign

@seandebrun2 @OMathuna89 Maybe they ought to consider changing their tone when talking about the Greens and Lab if they are serious about winning transfers from their voters.

@OMathuna89 This election has shown that the pact exists but Sinn Féin are not in it. The left wing parties did not transfer to them at all. Nearly 50% of all PBP transfers in Dublin went to the Soc Dems. That’s a serious worry for SF.

Sinn Fein are a LEFT WING party. Yet, PBP, Labour, Greens and the Social Dems did not transfer friendly to them at all in Dublin Central. In fact Sinn Féin gained the most from HARD RIGHT WING candidates. The party needs to dive hard back to its left wing Republican roots!

It’s an indictment of our political system that this moron is an elected representative

Soc Dems are angry about it too I’m sure - they don’t stand up performatively roaring and shouting in the Dail and put people off.
The Week in Politics@rtetwip

Áine Lawlor asks Sinn Féin TD, @loreillysf, "Is angry Sinn Féin a mistake?" after Janice Boylan's loss to Daniel Ennis, in the bye-elections for Dublin-Central. You can catch the re-run of #RTÉTwip on RTÉ One at 00:20am and on the RTÉ News Channel 3pm, 18:30pm and 10pm.

One thing is clear:- there is a want, need and a space for a new political movement in Ireland. If one came forward that was small state, fair tax and smart government, it would wipe the floor with the big three attract the smaller, indo or floating voters.

Same for Dublin central, feeding actual first count vote. Hutch probably doesn't finish as strong, and the opposite for Horner. Early stages of AI technology, but the fact it can even perform the simulation is still very impressive.

@kevintoconnor It’s almost as if SF don’t want the soft left parties to ever transfer to them..

I'm a Shinner and I'm pleased FF/FG have been decimated in Dublin Central. Kudos to the SocDems. That said, I don't like SocDems Daniel Ennis. There's something not right with him. He smacks of Fine Gael. I can't pinpoint it but he's dodgy. Meh. Hopefully, I'm wrong

@CSBlenner How FF HQ have been allowed the party become so irrelevant in a couple of constituencies is shocking. Wicklow too. Almost seem to have given up on them.

@anspailpin @DSMooney FF went from 7% in GE to 4% today in DubCentral. It’s hardly a wipeout. It, along, with Wicklow is a real prob constituency for the party. We’re never going to be in the running there. Galway West was poor.

Aontú on 2% in both by-elections. After nearly 10 years, what’s the point?
