Leftists don’t want people getting richer, they just want rich people getting poorer. It’s resentment at the root, not any real push to end poverty. Capitalism keeps proving the point because extreme poverty has plummeted wherever markets and property rights took hold, delivering more prosperity through innovation and trade than redistribution ever managed. Yet that success forces them to attack the source, so they tax the productive, regulate the ambitious, and frame wealth as exploitation so growth stalls and shortages appear. Then the state steps in as the only solution, concentrating power and manufacturing dependency until everyone answers to it. The resentful get control and the creators get contained. Envy as economic doctrine, and history records the results in ruined economies and lost liberty.

Europe built these generous pension systems on the assumption there would always be plenty of young workers paying in. By 2060 Italy and Spain are heading for barely 1.7 workers per retiree, France and Germany around 2, even Sweden only scraping 2.27. That’s a slow motion funding crisis, and instead of fixing the real problems governments just keep borrowing more, hiking taxes on whoever’s still working, and importing people who often cost more in services than they contribute. They won’t touch fertility collapse, they won’t make serious cuts to the promises, and they sure as hell won’t admit the math doesn’t work anymore. So the bill keeps getting pushed onto younger generations who get to pay higher contributions for smaller benefits and later retirement, all while the system gets propped up with more debt and more people. But this is what happens when you build everything on demographic quicksand and then refuse to face it.

This is because the anti-capitalist left is not actually against people being crazy rich. They're against certain types of people being crazy rich. Artists and athletes make sense to them because they've played music and sports and because their success can be explained by "luck" and "talent". Messi's wealth is not offensive to them because they understand Messi is much better at football than they are. But when it comes to business, the anti-capitalist leftist has no framework for understanding why Jeff Bezos might be super rich since 99% of them have never ever created a product, business or service that was of value to other people. They've never taken entrepreneurial risk. They've never employed people and felt the burden of responsibility that comes with that. They've never pick up a business and given it a play in the way they've picked up a ball or a guitar. They *literally* don't understand wealth creation. They think there is a fixed amount of money and the only thing a business does is split it unfairly. It's why they rage at Elon and other successful business leaders. Because they genuinely don't understand why they're wealthy. Also, and this is just as important, athletes and artists are disproportionately young, attractive, "diverse", left wing etc. Business leaders are "evil" middle aged white men whose success offends the average anti-capitalist leftist because they don't understand a) what it is they do and b) that Elon Musk has the same talent advantage on them as Messi does, it's just harder to measure.

Women used to be 30 years old married with 3 children and a husband living in a house they owned, with a high enough standard of living that she didn’t even need to work and could stay home. Now 30 year old women have slept with 30 guys, have no children, are not married, live in an apartment and have to go to work full time just to survive. This isn’t progress, this is societal decline and a dramatically lower quality of life being sold to women as their liberation when in reality it is their enslavement.
