ending Destiny 2 so sudden is baffling, said nothing for months now it’s just done.
Destiny players aren’t going to just jump to Marathon now.
Marathons steam numbers fell below Destiny even in destiny’s lowest low, that’s a really bad sign.
I’m worried for Bungies future.

@EpicGamerBroMan @PaulTassi Season 2 is just around the corner, we'll see if that moves the needle. They are clearly setting the game up as an active live service game with fast content updates, anything can happen. Everyone just doomposting before even seeing whats on offer

The reality is that now, more than ever, people should want Marathon to win. If it can thrive, it can expand in interesting ways, it can give Bungie runway and leeway with Sony for future projects. It's all upside if you want more Bungie games or even more Destiny. Marathon dying from here doesn't help anyone. Though that does not mean I'm going to just cheerlead if things don't turn around

People are interpreting this as some sort of battle cry, but it's the reality that people are upset about Marathon taking away resources from D2, which it did, to launch and perform poorly anyway. This is not subjective, it's what happened. Marathon is certainly not *the* reason Destiny 2 is dissolving. Leadership, lack of foresight, post-TFS plans, layoffs are the main culprits, but it's disingenuous to pretend it's in some separate silo somewhere and isn't involved in this at all.

@PaulTassi Even if we did support marathon it would only be like 15-20k concurrents? Thats nowhere near enough support to fund future projects. It's all up to sony now.

people are not used to a game trying to make you have fun and enjoy a lot of different stuff from the get go instead of making you have to suffer for 20 hours before you can start enjoying it

Did anyone else really dislike Destiny dungeons for no reason? Like it's probably my most "insane" D2 take but I can never shake off the feeling. They always felt like worse raid lairs. I'm still missing Auger's and stuff on alts because the thought of playing them makes me groan

@PaulTassi I have not really been a fan of your reporting on marathon conveniently mixing facts and opinions to clear bias. There is a subset of Destiny players who like to take them as a truth since it comes from a trusted journalist.

I do feel like this a lot. Some of it may be my outlook changing, but I miss when Destiny was a game I *could* do all of that stuff with. It’s just a void now 90% of the time
As a PvP game Marathon just isn’t gonna fill that gap more than occasionally. Games like Crimson are rare and obviously can’t last too long. But yeah regardless nothing is going to beat prime Destiny for that feeling and type of content, I fear

I like Marathon, but let’s be honest here. Edge of Fate (Destiny’s worst DLC) had more Day 1 players and a higher player count during Day 1 DP than Marathon’s had all its life. If Destiny ever got another DLC that was actually good it would have double Marathon’s high.
