IRELAND 🇮🇪 Ireland's Catholic Bishops have issued a very DIRECT message on the Irish establishment's attitude to the sanctity of life: • Asked why Covid was a public health emergency but 50,000 abortions are not • 'Neither the State, nor the mainstream media, seem to have any interest in exploring what leads women to choose abortion or what happens to them afterwards' • Encouraged Catholics to support those in crisis pregnancies • Backed politicians who defend life • SLAMMED efforts by Sinn Féin and the Social Democrats to expand abortion

@NijimaGroyper I mean, most contemporary religious people are simply atheists looking for identity and playing team sports.

Deciding to change your religious beliefs on a whim because of a political headline is a sign that religion is deeply unserious to you. It’s just a larp/team sport thing for these people. No different than changing NFL teams because the quarterback is a Democrat.

Saw a guy say he's considering becoming Ortho because of the Pope's position on immigration. Like is that actually a genuine conversion at that point?

@Alice_Mary96 @Catholic8941 "Gay marriages" are not being celebrated across Germany. And if they were, they would be against Church law. Also, the German synod is very much anti ultramontane, considering that they have been clashing with Rome for years.

@TomFinley19 @Catholic8941 Yes that's the case for your ultramontane church. As a result gay marriages are being celebrated across Germany who happen to be in full communion with you 😂 I wouldn't want to be in communion with that even if I was offered the entire world at my feet.

Reminder that even so-called "conservative" ultramontanes are just liberals dreaming of the Universal World Republic. The ultramontane church is a fundamentally liberal institution.

@Alice_Mary96 @Catholic8941 1) Fiducia supplicans is basically dead letter. 2) It is dogma that the Pope doesn't need to consult anyone to act. This is the blessing btw:

@AmericanReform_ You have to go back centuries to claim that those were binding policies towards jews. Pope Pius XI had cordial relations with Milan's rabbi when he was the city's archbp. and Pius XII never attacked jews.

“We adopt the same norm of action as did the Roman Pontiffs who were Our venerable predecessors. Alexander III forbade Christians under heavy penalties to accept permanent domestic service under Jews. ‘Let them not continually devote themselves to the service of Jews for a wage.’ He sets out the reason for this in the decretal Ad haec, de Judaeis. ‘Because Jewish ways do not harmonize in any way with ours and they could easily turn the minds of the simple to their own superstitions and faithlessness through continual intercourse and unceasing acquaintance.’ […] The same Pope stated that it was fitting for Jews to serve Christians rather than vice versa and added: ‘Let not the sons of the free woman be servants of the sons of the handmaid; but as servants rejected by their lord for whose death they evilly conspired, let them realize that the result of this deed is to make them servants of those whom Christ’s death made free,’ as we read in his decretal Etsi Judaeos.” - Pope Benedict XIV, A Quo Primum

In the Apostolic Palace, Pope Leo met with representatives of the United Jewish Appeal-Federation of New York and thanked them for their work in helping vulnerable populations. He also highlighted how in a world still wounded by division and conflict, the Second Vatican Council Declaration 'Nostra Aetate' called us "to move beyond past misunderstandings toward collaboration for the common good."

@jeanluccpicard I guess you would fight for the Ottomans in Instabul, that's why I respect more Easter Orthodox nowadays Deuteronomy 28:43-53 And it's not talking about barbaric people with a deranged cult and a disastrous policy that increases crimes but good people who are easily integrated.

Bishop Robert Barron
Bishop Robert Barron@BishopBarron·
I was delighted with the opening address of our new apostolic nuncio, Archbishop Caccia, at the recent bishops’ meeting. He didn’t scold or correct us, but rather expressed his esteem for the American church, going so far as to cite Tocqueville’s prediction that America might one day become “the core of Catholicism.” But what was most impressive in his address was his insistence, very much under the inspiration of Pope Leo, that we should return to the documents of Vatican II. And to show precisely which of those documents he felt was most important, he made a gift to each of us: a booklet containing “Lumen Gentium” and “Dei Verbum.” That choice is quite instructive. “Lumen Gentium,” the great document on the Church teaches clearly that the essential structures of Catholicism—priesthood, episcopacy, sacraments, the Mass, etc.—are not man-made or culturally relative but rather given to us by God. Moreover, it teaches that the Church has a singular mission: to bring the light of Christ (the “Lumen”) to the nations (the “Gentes”). Its very nature, as St. Pope Paul VI put it, is missionary. The Church, accordingly, is not one participant among many in a never-ending dialogue with various conversation partners, not, as Cardinal George used to say, “a debating society.” It engages the culture to be sure, but precisely as the confident proclaimer of a message. And “Dei Verbum,” the apostolic constitution on revelation, declares that authentic Christianity is not a philosophy or a set of convictions grounded in experience, but rather the fruit of the revelation offered through God’s word. This holds off the most stubborn heresy in history, namely, Gnosticism, which manifests itself in multiple forms today. For years, I have been urging a thoughtful return to the documents of Vatican II. This will hold off, I’ve argued, both a radical traditionalism, which sees Vatican II as fatally flawed, and a Catholic progressivism which entertains fantasies about a Church “beyond” the formulations of the Council. Again, I’m overjoyed that Pope Leo and our new nuncio seem to hold to the same conviction.
