President Trump says that he has instructed the DOJ to immediately probe oil companies for not lowering gas prices at the pump in line with falling costs, accusing them of “gouging” consumers. nbcnews.com/politics/donal…

🚨My New @Forbes column just dropped
No, Big Oil Is Not Price Gouging On Gasoline.
Every time prices spike, the same tired accusation returns — from both parties. But after 50 years of investigations, there’s still zero evidence of it.
The market works the way it always has: built-in lags between crude, wholesale, and retail; independent station owners setting prices; and real supply disruptions (like the Strait of Hormuz situation).
That’s not gouging: It's how commodities function.
Prices have already dropped ~60¢/gallon in the last month and should keep falling if the Strait of Hormuz remains open.

Today, AEA led a broad coalition of prominent conservative, taxpayer, and energy policy organizations in sending a letter to @LeaderJohnThune and @MikeJohnson urging support for a Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval to overturn the EPA's final Renewable Fuel Standard volume mandates for 2026 and 2027.

AEA President @TomJPyle had this to say:
“The RFS program was designed for a different era when America was dependent on foreign oil. Today, the United States is a net exporter of energy. These bloated mandates no longer serve their original purpose and instead act as a hidden tax that drives up costs for refiners and American families at the pump. The EPA’s own analysis acknowledges massive costs of more than $20 billion annually, against just $400 million in claimed benefits. Independent estimates place the total burden on consumers and refineries closer to $106 billion over the next two years. For American workers, businesses, and families already strained by inflation and high gas prices, this is the last thing they need.”

Do we all want the price of gas to be lower? Yes.
Do we need yet another DOJ investigation on price gouging? No.
But there is something the administration can do to immediately impact gas prices. Rescind the EPA RFS mandate. Here's a primer...

@GammySparkles @mrosazza Just got off a webinar about data centers and energy that was done by @IERenergy. It was good. Going to be a No on 1030 today unless I am surprised by something in committee, but may bring a GOOD DC bill next year.

The EIA is developing a survey to assess data center energy use.
There is no statistically significant relationship between data center concentration and faster increases in electricity rates.
