@LynnBraben The problem is that the money that they’re spending was taken away (in taxation) from someone else who also would’ve spent it. And some of it is lost in the transaction costs of converting tax revenues to welfare payments. So that’s a bit glib really.

Economist Richard Murphy says people on (whichever) benefits contribute more to the economy because they spend their money, they don't/can't save. So, rather than being a drain on society, they actively stimulate it!

Why are brtish people such tramps? I'm at my fave lake having a wonderful time, and its busy with families and groups of mates So many of them are leaving litter everywhere, food wrappers, beer cans, plastic wrapping etc Is it really so difficult to clean up after yourself?

The normalisation of gambling through the National Lottery was the worst thing John Major did. Gambling destroys lives and families. Yes, he also did great work on resolving The Troubles. But the gambling he unleashed has done more harm than terrorists managed.

@ecoengr @FeralHeather I don’t care what it’s the result of. I know that if I gave my students a handout looking like some of the assignments they give me they would complain. It’s simple mental exercise to ask: how will this look like to the reader?

crying and throwing up, my Mac just seemingly deleted my draft paper which had all my thoughts in that I’ve been working on for weeks. This is the error message. I went to ‘save’ it and Word just said the file was missing. The file is not in my trash. Please someone help me recover it 😭

Would you swap the pound for the Euro in order to rejoin the EU? It's a condition demanded by an EU chief after Labour challengers Wes Streeting and Andy Burnham put a return to the bloc back on the agenda. Is scrapping sterling a price worth paying?

@BoveFromAbove @JeremyVineOn5 Yes it could be a vague commitment for a time in the future. On the other hand a 1% lower interest rate on national debt might be an advantage

@JeremyVineOn5 It's worth noting that several EU countries that joined long after Denmark, Sweden, and the UK still haven't been required to adopt the Euro. Technically, it's a condition for new members, but in reality, it doesn't get enforced.

@FeralHeather @ecoengr I am constantly sending students links to YouTube clips explaining how to use Word properly. Have you heard of styles? Have you heard of creating a table of contents automatically? Captions & cross referencing? Do you think it looks professional to have random changes in font?

@ecoengr Unfortunately many can’t even figure out Google Docs… even when I provide links to How To guides, show them demos… it’s pretty bleak & frustrating having to spend so much time in a writing class teaching them basic tech. I don’t get it
