I will never in a million years understand why these guys think it's some kind of an own when they point out that the Civil Rights Movement wasn't random but actually incredibly strategic and organized and aware of optics when they planned their civil disobedience campaigns.

It’s 100% true What Actually Happened on December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks was a longtime NAACP volunteer and secretary of the Montgomery chapter. She had been deeply involved in civil rights activism for years (including work on cases like the Recy Taylor rape and voter registration efforts). She was not just a random tired seamstress on her way home from work who spontaneously refused to move. Local civil rights leaders had been looking for a strong test case to challenge bus segregation. They even had people cast for the role before Rosa Parks. Earlier attempts include 15 year old Claudette Colvin were passed over because leaders felt Rosa Parks, a mature, respected, married woman with a spotless reputation, would be a more sympathetic plaintiff in court and to the public The Iconic Photo was 100% staged The famous photo was taken on December 21, 1956, this is over a year after her arrest and on the first day the buses were integrated after the Supreme Court ruling It was deliberately staged by journalists, Look Magazine and UPI, for a press campaign to dramatize the victory The white man sitting behind her is Nicholas Chriss, a UPI reporter, not a random angry passenger or segregationist

George H.W. Bush kept his assets in a blind trust, as did Bill Clinton. Neither Obama nor Biden traded stocks or bonds while in office. 3,700 trades is probably more than all the trades of all the presidents until now. And he is trading stocks that are affected by his decisions. A walking conflict of interest, at the least, and perhaps insider trading. @T030541 @FrogeLole @GalAtTheTheater The other point I’m getting at is that this line of discourse is as productive as arguing about whether oral rape is worse than vaginal rape or whether being date raped is worse than beaten and raped. It’s pointless.

@T030541 @FrogeLole @GalAtTheTheater Correct but the point I am getting at is that the psychological impacts of sexual violation are disproportionate to the physical harm that occurred. Which is to say, of the few men I’ve known who were MTP, I’d say they were about distraught as those who were penetrated.

@T030541 @FrogeLole @GalAtTheTheater Which is to say, at least in the United States, we moved away from that line of thinking when we grouped vaginal, anal, oral, and (in some JXs) MTP together for the purpose of rape legislation.

@T030541 @FrogeLole @GalAtTheTheater In a purely physical sense, yes. But we morally and legally condemn rape more harshly for reasons that transcend physical impact. This conversation feels as off key as asking,,“If push came to shove would you rather be orally or anally raped?”

@GalAtTheTheater State legislatures in the US, as a matter of criminal code, often group both under the same offense, which is more appropriate than segmenting them as the United Kingdom does.
