@MissRLittle The impacts of fast fashion is such an important one. So many schools no longer have a second hand uniform shop. This could be an interesting way to address this issue in the school community.

@MissRLittle This is such an interesting stat!! I agree that we need to reduce paper use in classrooms. I would also love to see a reduction in laminating in classrooms too.

@CBoulus You are welcome!! The process of growing the plants and then learning how to harvest the seeds to return to the seed library really helps to foster a sense of community and contribution to a bigger cause.

A seed library can be a great resource to promote sustainability. People can get seeds for free that are suited to their local climate and then once they have susessfully grown thier plants they can harvest seeds and give back to the community. #SDG11 #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach

@Tonims85 Absolutely, this is a wonderful way to integrate the traditional people of the land and into the schooling environment. Are you inviting the Awabakal Land Council into your unit of work?

aecg.nsw.edu.au/product/aborig… It is so important to include Indigenous perspectives and knowledge in all areas of our curriculum. We can ensure we are getting genuine resources by utilising our local aecg. This is an example of one of their great resources. #SDG11 #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach

@CBoulus I am focusing on #SDG11 as well and will aim to establish a community seed library, especially focusing on seeds and resources suitable for growing in small spaces so the community can get involved regardless of the space they have available to them.

@jasminebloorr Bunnings are a great community resource. So much knowledge and they are willing to help with so many worthwhile community programs. I am also incorporating them into my unit-plan of establishing a seed library.

The Bunnings In Our Community initiative is a great resource I have incorporated in my unit plan to support community-based pedagogy. Bunnings will collaborate with our school by providing materials to construct our new Yarning Circle. #SDG3 #educ4750 #UoNTeach

@MissNelson98 Worm Farms and composting are all great ways for students to contribute to environmental sustainability and learning about these things are great life skills that they can hopefully continue into the future.

Thanks for sharing! Worm farms are a great way to support #sdg12 in schools by organically recycling food scraps. Check out the Central Coast Council, as they offer free Green Living workshops & worm farm guides like the one below! #UoNTeach #educ4750 recyclingnearyou.com.au/compost/Centra…

Students learn how they can contribute to a healthy planet by recycling scraps in a worm farm. Do you think learning this skill early will help continue responsible recycling habits into adulthood? agandstem.com/worm-farm-enga… #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach #SDG12

@_elisethumath Community and school vegetable gardens are such a great way to contribute to environmental sustainability but also a practical solution to the growing pressures of the cost of living and food costs.

@jasminebloorr Such a great idea to incorporate the 8 ways of learning framework into your lesson plan. When students develop a sense of belonging the are more likely to feel a sense of ownership and responsibility for our environment and planet.

Incorporating the 8 ways of learning framework into my unit plan will allow students to build a much deeper connection to country. When students develop a strong sense of belonging, their social and mental wellbeing is often strengthened. #SDG3 #educ4750 #UoNTeach

A Yarning Circle is a great area to implement within our schools & recognise the diversity of the school community! A Yarning Circle allows the students to speak freely without judgement & is considered a safe place to share stories and complete lessons. #SDG3 #educ4750 #UoNTeach

As a teacher, it is important that we are developing essential knowledge, skills and values to better include sustainability education in our teaching and learning practices. This is becoming a requirement around the world.(Evans, 2019) #UoNteach #Educ4750

@Emilyosheaeduc My Unit will culminate in the students establishing a school seed library and resources to go with each different variety of seed. This will allow for the school, school community and wider community to participate in creating a sustainable environment in their own home/space.

I love promoting that everyone can contribute something, even children. Problems can seem so large that we can feel powerless to effect change, by defining things we can do in our everyday lives we are empowering people to be part of the solution. #SDG11 #educ4750 #UoNTeach

@Emilyosheaeduc These are great ideas. I think it is also a community asset that students and their families can become involved in outside of school. Not everyone has the space or the set up for a garden at home.

Embedding the 6C’s in all areas of the curriculum ensures that we are equipping our students to effectively operate in the real world be. Sustainability in the community is a perfect real world problem for students to work on in school&outside of school #SDG11 #EDUC4705 #UoNTeach
Millee Ann@millee_ann2022

What better way to develop students’ 6C’s then working together to solve real-world problems? A way to incorporate this into the classroom is through #pbl, where students can work in a team and collaborate to solve a real-world problem like, #SDG14. #UoNTeach #educ4750
