I may have to stop trying new comedies. Too many mopey people in soap opera situations amused with themselves. Cheers never had to tell us it was funny.

The Paper” premieres 32 years ago today. Not just a stellar cast (including Duvall, #RIP 🙏🏼 ) .. .. but David Koepp’s script beautifully captures the sarcastic, weary and competitive nature of a local news editorial meeting. @RealRonHoward @MichaelKeaton

@justalexoki It was never possible to get a group like this all in one place on a streaming service. Blockbuster you’ll say, great, almost all of these are rentable on Amazon, most for the same 3.99 price as Blockbuster a decade ago.

Hard to believe my Netflix special, The Greatest Average American, came out 5 years ago today. I liked the title so much I just kept it going… now it’s a whole game show. You can watch The Greatest Average American game show Wednesdays on ABC and stream on Hulu. Turns out one idea can take you pretty far.

At my age every trip to the toilet is a Paul Thomas Anderson movie: "One Battle After Another" and "There Will Be Blood".

I can honestly say every time I saw Eric Overmyer’s name in the opening credits I sat up a little higher in my chair, knowing this project, this particular episode, was going to be an absolute banger. Superbly talented writer who’s had an enormous impact on me & from what I hear was a really good guy. He made works of fiction feel real, capturing the beauty and ugliness of the world and there’s really no higher achievement in this line of work. RIP.

@SonOfTheBronx Who remembers? :) I even forgot the episodes weren't an hour. First single-camera scripted tv show?

@JakeAKline Perusing his imdb... seen his credit since St. Elsewhere but lots of short timers: Slap Maxwell, Molly Dodd, Dellaventura, Gideon's Crossing. He wrote St E's Alfre Woodard on Homicide and brought Munch from Homicide to The Beat (UPN)!

Peter Graves was born 100 years ago today. He almost said no to Airplane! (1980), calling the script “disgusting crap.” His wife and daughter insisted it was hilarious, and they were right. The role won him a whole new wave of fans beyond Mission: Impossible.

@DannyDeraney Damn shame that she was supposed to host SNL, too. I believe the writers' strike disrupted that.
