FACT CHECK: Prime Minister Mark Carney is warning Albertans against treating a vote on sovereignty as leverage, comparing it to Brexit and arguing that people can end up voting for something they do not fully understand.

Carney says 50% +1 is not a clear majority.

🚨 BREAKING: Prime Minister Mark Carney makes it clear — a 50%+1 result on Premier Smith’s independence question is not enough. What do you think?
English

@WSOnlineNews Did he bark that out in between chewing on a bone?
English

That’s ok to get a majority by sewer rats crossing the floor but a 50%+1 vote for AB independence…….OUT OF THE F’N QUESTION! Sounds fair right? What a joke, where do we actually live, North Korea.
But hey, tap our cell phones, that ok, take us to MAID if we have a runny nose. WHAT HAS CANADA BECOME?!

When the floor crossers happened.
Everyone attacked Pierre.
Gladu, just admitted that the Liberals offer money to Liberal ridings,
IF THEY CROSS THE FLOOR.
Unconstitutional madness.
And yet, they still attacked Pierre’s leadership.
Fast forward to today:
14 cowardly Liberal MPs, sign a letter against Carney,
The media protects them,
No names.
One MP, quits as a minister.
And now, he may leave the Liberal caucus altogether.
So my question is:
WHEN WILL MEDIA ATTACK CARNEY’S LEADERSHIP?
14 unhappy MPs.
One quitting.
A province that wants to separate.
It’s a disaster.

🤡🤡🤡🤡 : Mark Carney said having a question about a question, put to a vote, is not legally binding in Canada and doesn't require the Clarity Act.
🖊️ Albertans were told they needed to collect enough signatures to have a referendum on staying in, or leaving Canada.
📜 Hundreds of thousands of Albertans took the time to sign a petition to have a legally binding referendum on Alberta separation from Canada.
🗳️ They met the required threshold to have the vote they wanted. But are now told one will not happen but they can have a vote, to see if they want a vote.
🇨🇦 We keep being told Albertans overwhelmingly want to stay in Canada. So why not have the vote then?
If it sounds retarded, it's because it is retarded. On par for the course for Canada, where men get pregnant and kids needs taxpayer funded snorting kits.
What a retarded society.

@ryangerritsen Say one thing, do another. How stupid are the voters. Open your eyes. Lol
English

@WSOnlineNews If 50%+1 is the vote we are gone, good luck fighting us on that. 😂
English

@LoriSigurdson Why you think of leftards, this pic is the pic in the dictionary. Wow.
English

@cspotweet Try try try, snivelling worm that he is will go against democracy at every turn.
English

@Mikeggibbs He is basically god, the greatest human ever. 🤣. I guess we see what AB thinks on Oct 19.
Alberta Strong.
English

Mark Carney's approval rating as Prime Minister has hit a new record high.
*Almost 70% of Canadians approve of his job performance.* I can't think of any PM or any govt who was this popular in all of Canadian history.
Canadians are very united right now.
If you think this poll is whacky, guess again: Abacus confirmed very similar results this week too.
It's real.

@anonfmresident There’s no way you’re a doctor and be this stupid. I feel sorry for your patients.
English

@CanadianModera1 So you can literally live ANYWHERE in the world and collect your CPP right now. I don’t understand your point.
English

The separatists claim that Albertans who have contributed to CPP would automatically keep receiving it globally if Alberta leaves Canada is false. It confuses individual eligibility with the geopolitical reality of international sovereignty & pension asset division. #abpoli
English

@jkenney Turn off the oil and natural gas to BC NOW! Let the indigenous Chiefs figure that one out.
English

One of my all time favourite separatist arguments. 👌
The UN will come to Alberta’s defence!
UN blue helmets will be dispatched to BC to force the construction of pipelines!
And this comes from folks who believe the UN is irredeemably corrupt, and see a “globalist” plot hiding behind every tree. 🤯
The Critical Compass@thecritcomp
@jkenney Canada would be in violation of UNCLOS if they dared to block our exports. A Republic of Alberta blocking East-West trade between the Pacific coast and Eastern Canada would be infinitely more devastating than whatever reactionary nonsense you've dreamed up here. Be serious.

@GreatBig_Sea Yes, it’s called slave labour, welcome to Chinada. The companies that hire them should be left to rot.
English

Mark Carney is lying to you.
In the first 90 days of 2026, Canada issued 292,855 work permits, smashing the full-year target of 220k–230k.
247,895 under IMP (International Mobility Program)
44,960 under TFWP
Why employers love the IMP:
It’s a much cheaper, faster, and easier alternative to the TFWP.
Key Financial & Practical Benefits of IMP (vs TFWP):
No LMIA required → Saves $770+ per worker (no $1,000 LMIA fee)
No mandatory job advertising to Canadians
Much faster processing (weeks vs months)
Lower compliance costs — only $230 employer fee
Fewer obligations around housing, wages, and recruitment
More flexible permits for workers (easier to retain staff)
This is exactly why companies like Tim Hortons and many in hospitality/retail have shifted heavily to IMP workers. It’s faster, cheaper, and bypasses most of the strict labour market tests required under the TFWP.
Kanwar Sierah, RCIC@KanwarSierah
Who needs TFWP when record IMP are issued? This is why Tim Hortons Canada no longer requires Temporary Foreign Worker Program, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗜𝗠𝗣 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 as Canada broke all previous quarterly records for Work Permits approvals.
