@Skr5Sue I had to make a few shifts today...something bigger on the way but today's episode ran long in production and I needed to make a creative decision. Soon... Thanks for the compliment, Sue.

Today is the day. Stay Free Alberta handed in the petition. And while that was happening, the noise machine fired up - seven police cruisers, a data breach claim that doesn't hold water, and two men quietly fighting over who gets to lead a province they don't trust to decide for itself. Haver takes it from here. Turn the volume up.

@Judy1774422 @CoryBMorgan This does appear to be factual, but really not that relevant to the current conversation. Listen, Judy… I get what you’re saying. It’s valid. And I encourage you to have it. It’s another great conversation to be had, but doesn’t absolve the Republican Party.

@YakkStack @CoryBMorgan Is it true that all of the longest ballots candidates had access to voter information?

Assuming everything is resolved soon and the independence referendum campaign is no longer sidetracked, the door knocking will begin in earnest. Like it or not, some people are going to express privacy concerns. Please don't tell them it's no big deal & it's like a phone book. We need to win a referendum and dismissing concerns won't win trust.

You realize that all that separates this is a document of registration, right? If the Republican Party registered as a provincial party and had the Centurion Group listed - in the same way as nenshi listed his 4AB4Can group launched...this wouldn't even be a conversation, right?
Michael Reynolds@M_JAYA_R

@YakkStack I believe official party status parties can use it as is legally allowed to be used. The entities that are not allowed such as hmmmmm the centurion project can screw off and feel the full extent of the law.

@YakkStack @CoryBMorgan The FAFC campaign is just that. An NDP campaign against independence. There's a lot of marketing around it but it's legal. The only complaint I would say would be that it's being sold as a separate entity from the NDP. It's not. Donations are tax credit thus political.

The Voter Registry exists for one purpose - elections. And Alberta isn’t in one for another 18 months. So spare the sudden outrage about ‘data breaches’, especially when Naheed Nenshi is playing from the same playbook. Launch the advocacy arm, shift the messaging, then use the same data channels to reach people directly. Different branding, same mechanics. And let’s not pretend timing is a coincidence. Thomas Lukaszuk is gaining ground as Nenshi is losing his...with the same audience this campaign is chasing. If that weren’t the case, we wouldn’t be seeing this scramble we’d be seeing alignment. This isn’t about principle. It’s about positioning.

In this candid chat, James outline how the recent Centurion Project controversy will shape further conversations surrounding Alberta independence in the coming months in the lead up to the referendum. The main takeaway: Give them nothing. Stay united. Keep focused.

@CoryBMorgan Whenever you're ready, my brother. We all have our place in this conversation and rather than inner fighting - it's best we find the common ground. You've spend a few decades on this, I'm still following your footsteps. Perspective is a big thing.

Here's the thing...and the big thing that needs to be mentioned. Myself and @CoryBMorgan are literally on the same side...and I think that this is a conversation that needs to happen because we can show support on the same side of things, while we may not agree on everything. This is life. This is politics. This would be an amazing coversation! PS - love Cory. He's been amazing throughout all of this. This would just be a good conversation to have.

@CoryBMorgan @YakkStack I think that is prudent. Lists of our data are for sale and easily attained but Government information should be totally private and kept that way. Canvassers had now citizens who came from communist countries that support but would not sign for this very reason.

This would be an awesome conversation. I'm totally into this...and while we may seem to be somewhat opposed - this would work out to be one of those - can we be on the same side of the conversation without agreeing on everything? Because this is the type of conversation we need to have.

@YakkStack We shared data with a candidate who ran there in the next election. It wasn't electoral list data though. It was just our own database acquired through campaigning.

Exactly. Pretending that this is different is the wrong path. The vote supporting data was shared. This was outside channels. This was outside of Elections Alberta...and it still got shared. We could dive into this deeper, if you'd like. Let's do it on your channel or on a Western Standard conversation because this is an important conversation. You know where to find me. And while we may not have the same perspective - we support the same things.

We've talked about this with Jane running for Ward 4 and the sharing of political data. I am of the mind that if people want to be elected, they should do so by their own footwork and by their own fundraising. The tipping of the scales through unions, advocacy groups and corporations - should be eliminated. I'll stand firmly on this.

@YakkStack I am getting more to the view some others have posted in saying we should just end giving the lists out period. Parties or not. They can build their own databases. In the mean time though, the rules are there.
