STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE PRESIDENT TINUBU ASSURES ON RESCUE OF KIDNAPPED VICTIMS IN OYO STATE, CONDEMNS REPORTED KILLING OF ABDUCTED TEACHER President Bola Tinubu has condemned as barbaric the reported killing of one of the abducted teachers from the Esiele community in Oyo State, while the rescue operation is underway. Bandits invaded the Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State last Friday. They abducted staff, students, and pupils of Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School and L.A. Primary School. Security operatives are working around the clock to rescue the victims and apprehend the bandits and their collaborators within the community. President Tinubu sympathised with Governor Seyi Makinde, the government, and the people of Oyo State for the unfortunate incident and assured them that the federal government will collaborate with the state government to rescue the victims. "I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community. I sympathise with Governor Seyi Makinde and commend the steps he has taken on the matter. I sympathise with the families of the kidnapped victims. "The Federal Government is working with the Oyo State government to rescue all the victims. I commend the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioners of Police in Oyo and Kwara States for their quick intervention and the deployment of a tactical and the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) team to rescue the victims. "The IGP, following my instructions, is personally leading the tech-driven operation. We expect a breakthrough soon. The bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law. "Cases of kidnapping further make imperative the establishment of state police to man some of our underserved areas. The National Assembly should accelerate the enactment of the law creating state police", the President said. Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy) May 18, 2026

Nigeria’s Mining Revolution is Here. For decades, Nigeria’s solid minerals sector remained a sleeping giant—rich in lithium, gold, limestone, bitumen, and rare earth metals, yet held back by illegal mining, insecurity, low processing capacity, and weak investor confidence. But under the Tinubu administration, that story is changing—fast. $2.6 billion in FDI attracted in just 30 months Lithium processing prioritized to meet global EV demand Strategic partnerships with the U.S., UK, and Saudi Arabia Shift from raw export to local beneficiation and refining Tinubu’s mining reforms are turning Nigeria into a critical minerals hub—and the world is taking notice. The future of our economy isn't just oil. It's lithium, gold, and grit.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐄𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐆𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐔𝐏𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐃𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐀’𝐒 𝐒𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐈𝐆𝐍 𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐓 𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐘 𝐒&𝐏 𝐆𝐋𝐎𝐁𝐀𝐋 𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒 The Federal Government welcomes the decision by S&P Global Ratings to upgrade Nigeria’s sovereign credit rating from ‘B-’ to ‘B’ with a Stable Outlook. This latest upgrade by S&P follows similar positive rating actions in 2025 by Fitch Ratings and Moody's Ratings. It further reinforces growing international confidence in Nigeria’s economic reform trajectory, policy consistency, and medium-term growth prospects. These independent assessments collectively affirm that the difficult but necessary reforms undertaken under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, are yielding measurable results and laying the foundation for a more stable, transparent, and resilient economy. In particular, S&P highlighted improvements in Nigeria’s external position, stronger balance of payments dynamics, increased oil production, expanding domestic refining and export capacity, and the sustained implementation of key macroeconomic reforms including foreign exchange market liberalisation. The agency also recognised ongoing fiscal reforms aimed at broadening the tax base, improving public revenue mobilisation, enhancing fiscal transparency, and strengthening debt sustainability. Notably, Nigeria’s debt-to-revenue ratio has improved significantly since 2023 and is projected to decline further as reforms continue to mature. The upgrades by Fitch, Moody’s, and now S&P send a strong signal to global investors, development partners, financial markets, and the international business community that Nigeria is regaining macroeconomic credibility and restoring confidence in the management of its economy. The government remains firmly committed to prudent fiscal management, macroeconomic stability, and structural reforms that promote inclusive and sustainable growth. We have maintained our position against the reintroduction of inefficient fuel subsidies which historically created significant fiscal distortions, incentivised smuggling, weakened foreign exchange liquidity, and diverted scarce public resources away from critical national priorities. We remain committed to a market-driven economy anchored on transparency, competition, and effective regulatory oversight. Accordingly, the Federal Government will continue to uphold policies that support free enterprise, respect private investment, and provide a stable and predictable environment for businesses and investors to thrive. While these positive ratings developments are encouraging, we recognise that the work ahead remains substantial. We are focused on addressing inflationary pressures, improving food security, expanding decent job opportunities, and ensuring that economic growth translates into meaningful and inclusive prosperity for all Nigerians. The Federal, States and Local Governments will continue to implement reforms with discipline, pragmatism, and compassion while maintaining close engagement with citizens and all stakeholders. The Federal Government appreciates the resilience, patience, and support of Nigerians in this reform journey. The improving outlook from leading global rating agencies will further position our country to attract investments and and enhance the country's ability to secure financing on more favourable terms. We are strengthened in our resolve to build a stronger economy that is globally competitive, fiscally sustainable, and works for all Nigerians. President Tinubu walked into the Africa CEO Forum this week and owned it. For context, the event is not a diplomatic courtesy call. It is the room where Africa’s most significant investment decisions begin. Mr President told the continent’s most powerful decision makers that Africa cannot build scale by looking outward first. That the continent must invest in itself. Trade with itself. Build its own corridors. Back its own businesses. And he closed with a line that the room did not expect from a Nigerian president on a stage this significant. Africa’s future will not be handed to us. We must build it, own it, and defend it together. This week Trump and Xi were in Beijing negotiating the future of global trade but President Tinubu stole the headlines. 👏🏿🇳🇬🌍 Follow The African Brief on WhatsApp. Link in bio.

IBOS IN LAGOS GIVE APC CONDITION "Ahead of the 2027 general election, Ibos in Lagos have warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that they will not support or vote for the party unless their demands are fulfilled. According to reports from early 2026, Ibo community leaders and stakeholders in Lagos have been actively engaging with the APC regarding their representation and status in the state ahead of upcoming elections. A few weeks ago, Ibo residents in Lagos appealed to the APC Lagos State Chapter to be given tickets to contest House of Representatives seats in 3 Federal Constituencies. They assured that their full support for the party would extend to both the gubernatorial and presidential elections. In a communique issued after a Ndigbo Stakeholders meeting—which included community leaders, professionals, youth, and women leaders—call for political inclusion, they requested tickets to contest the Federal Constituencies of AJEROMI-IFELODUN , AMUWO-ODOFIN, AND OSHODI-ISOLO They assert that for decades, the ruling party in the state has consistently excluded Ibo candidates from its Federal House of Representatives tickets in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Amuwo-Odofin, and Oshodi-Isolo, despite Ibos being a major voting bloc and mainly residents in the area. This ongoing exclusion conveys a negative message, suggesting that Ibo loyalty and contributions are disregarded, and many now see it as deliberate neglect or even hostility from party leaders. They argue that such political sidelining undermines national unity, fosters voter apathy, and creates unhealthy suspicion within Lagos and Nigeria. They humbly appeal to the APC National Working Committee, the APC Lagos State Chapter, and the Governor’s Advisory Council to, in the interest of justice, fairness, and national cohesion, allocate the 2027 House of Representatives seats for these constituencies to credible Ibo candidates. Doing so would dispel ethnicity-based doubts, affirm APC’s national character, and strengthen Ndigbo’s trust and commitment to the party and government. This is not a plea for tokenism but a call for fairness. Many qualified Ibo APC members in these areas are capable of winning elections and representing all residents inclusively,” the statement dated April 23, 2026, states." MY COMMENTS: Enikuure eyin Asiwèrè won yi. You want to have THREE (3) OUT OF TEN (10) HoR Seats for Lagos. Only IBOS? What about the Urhobos, Isokos, Edos, Hausas, Ijaws, Ibibios, Idomas, Fulanis and the many other Non-Yoruba people living in Lagos? We should give them one slot each and Yoruba be zero or those people don't matter. It is all about IBO. ÀRÁ ma san pa yin ni. Very stupid!!!! 1. Can the Ibo APC members in Kano tell us to whom they submitted the same letter and request in Kano State? At least the Ibos have a huge population in Sabon Gari for example,. can't they demand tickets for COUNCILLORSHIP at least? 2 Can the Ibo APC members in Edo, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Benue and even Rivers States tell us to whom they submitted the same letter and request in those States? In Delta State for example an Ibo man from Awka Anambra State who lives in Asaba and has an APC membership card should be able to contest from House of Assembly Asaba is Ibo just as Awka is also Ibo. 3. Can the Imo APC show us evidence of ONE IBO from Uwani in Enugu who has been given ticket to contest anything in Imo state? 4. Can the Ibos explain to is why this One Nigeria DIVERSITY AND INCLUCIVITY must be practicable only in Lagos and Yoruba land. This is a very important question. It will do you like Kanayo O Kanayo atrocious home videos by the time the whole thing is set Nonsense!!!!. #YorubaRonu #ThinkYorubaFirst #WeHaveMissedRoad © Adedamola Adetayo 15 May 2026

Open 800 kilometers of waterfront road, Calabar Coastal Road, so that I can create opportunity for those who will stay in and enjoy tourism in Nigeria. The more I listen to President Tinubu speak on Africa, the more I understand why some people are genuinely uncomfortable with him beyond ordinary politics. The man is not speaking like someone chasing social media applause or emotional claps from angry citizens. He is actually talking like someone who understands power, economics, history and the systems that have kept Africa mentally and financially dependent for generations. When he said Africa cannot continue being a “price-taker” on its own resources, that line hit me personally because that has been the tragedy of this continent for decades. Africa holds about 30% of the world’s mineral reserves, yet contributes less than 3% to global manufacturing output. Think about that deeply. We own the raw materials but others control the processing, pricing, shipping, exchanges and profits. Africa exports crude oil and imports refined fuel. Africa exports cocoa and imports expensive chocolate. Africa exports lithium and cobalt, then buys back batteries and electronics at premium prices from countries that barely have those resources naturally. Somewhere along the line, Africans became workers inside a system designed for others to remain owners. And the painful part is that many Africans themselves are comfortable with this structure. They complain about colonialism every day but panic anytime an African leader starts talking about African-controlled systems, African commodity exchanges, African currencies and African bargaining power. One foreign rating agency coughs and African elites start shaking immediately. Tinubu saying “Why don’t you start one?” when asked about Africa building its own exchange platform is exactly the kind of mindset this continent has lacked for years. Direct. Bold. Unapologetic. No begging. No victim mentality. People don’t realize that commodity exchanges are part of how global power is controlled. London, New York and Chicago help determine prices for resources produced in Africa while intra-African trade still struggles below 20%. That is structural dependence. This is why I laugh whenever some Nigerians reduce Tinubu to ordinary local politics and Twitter insults. While many politicians are still trapped inside “Nigeria is finished” speeches every week, Tinubu is discussing industrialization, African markets, manufacturing, commodity exchanges and continental economic influence with global investors and African leaders. That conversation is bigger than local politics. Honestly, many people attacking him do not even know that they are defending the same dependency structure that has kept Africa weak for decades. Some Africans trust foreign validation more than they trust their own continent. That inferiority complex is one of Africa’s biggest problems. Africa can never become powerful while exporting raw materials cheaply and importing finished products at expensive prices. Africa can never negotiate from strength while Africans themselves do not believe in African-owned institutions. For the first time in a long while, I am hearing a Nigerian President stand confidently on international stages and speak less like a local politician and more like somebody thinking about the future economic power of Africa itself. I'm so happy to say that Nigeria is in safe hands with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu!!

In the midst and month of intense political activities back home, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT remains admirably focused on governance, engaging global partners for the benefit of Nigeria and Nigerians. His opponents are having sleepless nights with ‘zoning’ and fake ‘one-term’ promises, running around like headless chickens.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu@officialABAT

I arrived in Kigali this afternoon from Nairobi, where we joined other African leaders at the Africa Forward Summit co-hosted by President Ruto and President Macron to advance a new model of partnership built on trade, investment, innovation, infrastructure, and shared prosperity. I thank my brother, President Paul Kagame @PaulKagame, for the warm reception upon my arrival in Kigali and for our productive bilateral engagement at the Urugwiro presidential village. Nigeria and Rwanda understand what this moment requires. Africa must trade more with itself, move goods faster, connect its markets better, and give its entrepreneurs the continental scale they need to compete. Our discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade between our two countries. We are also in the early stages of discussions with RwandAir on a practical flat rate arrangement that can help Nigerian businesses ship their goods more predictably across the continent. As champions of the AfCFTA, Nigeria and Rwanda will continue to work together to deepen digital trade, strengthen market access, and remove the barriers that limit African enterprise. Furthermore, Nigeria is proud to host the AfCFTA Council of Ministers and Digital Trade Forum in June. We also look forward to welcoming the continent and the world for IATF and CANEX from November 5 to 11, 2026, and again in November 2027. From the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi to the Africa CEO Forum @africaceoforum in Kigali, my message remains the same. Africa’s future will not be built by speeches alone. It will be built by trade, investment, innovation, and the courage to trust one another’s markets. This is the path to shared and sustainable prosperity for our people and the continent. What’s the point of touring the country to “listen to problems” you have no capacity to solve from Abuja? Most of the issues in local communities fall under the jurisdiction of the 774 local governments and state governments. Governance works best when responsibilities are handled at the level closest to the people, not when everything is centralized around the President. Now it obvious why you weakened local government structures as Governor. If you don’t understand the role each tier of government is supposed to play, you’ll keep campaigning on problems you were never meant to solve directly.

Inspiring conversation with H.E. President Tinubu @OfficialABAT and Nigerian leadership on our shared development agenda. @IFC_org is advancing a PPP infrastructure pipeline to help address Nigeria’s $14B annual urban infrastructure gap, completed a landmark cross-currency swap with the Central Bank of Nigeria, and is expanding local currency solutions to support MSME growth. IFC is also accelerating energy access under @WorldBankGroup's #Mission300 by backing mini-grid and solar developers. Next on the agenda: water and land transportation projects to strengthen regional connectivity between Nigeria and its neighbours. Proud of what this partnership is delivering for jobs, infrastructure, and inclusive growth in #Nigeria. #ACF26
