⚠️🗣Niall McNally: 'Women are NOT objects. It’s disgraceful. We need to be in schools, talking to young boys.' 🎤The brother of Natalie McNally, Niall, speaking to Chief Reporter @jamesgould23. He says some attitudes and behaviours towards women are an absolute disgrace. Pointing to social media and what young boys are exposed to, he says things have to change. Earlier this week, First Minister @moneillsf and deputy First Minister @little_pengelly said they were standing shoulder to shoulder to tackle violence against women and girls, something Niall has welcomed. 36-year-old Stephen McCullagh was found guilty on Monday of the murder of 32-year-old Natalie McNally at her home in Lurgan on 18 December 2022. Natalie was pregnant. Niall says he does not want a single other family to go through what his has endured. He also highlights that two women were murdered here during the course of Natalie’s trial. @IrishBlue1878

💔Natalie McNally: Brother says killer is 'pure evil, a monster and not even a man. He took my sister and her child from us.' 🎥Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 sits down with Niall McNally, Natalie’s brother. Niall says Natalie was the best sister he could ever have asked for. He says her killer took a grandchild away from his mum and dad. 36-year-old Stephen McCullagh was found guilty on Monday of the murder of 32-year-old Natalie McNally at her home in Lurgan on 18 December 2022. Somewhat unexpectedly brought home this lovely little guy today after my beloved golden retriever, Roo, died a few weeks ago (also unexpectedly). So far, he is nameless.

I remember the time I went to the ER 3 months postpartum because I couldn’t stop vomiting and my chest felt tight. I kept telling them: this isn’t anxiety. Something is wrong. The nurse glanced at my chart and said, “A lot of new moms feel overwhelmed.” A resident came in, barely looked at me, and said, “It’s probably a panic attack. Try to relax.” They left me in a hallway bed. No monitor. No urgency. Just that look that says you’re being dramatic. I whispered, “I think I’m going to pass out.” He laughed and said, “You’re safe here. You’re not dying.” Ten minutes later I stood up and collapsed. Suddenly there were doctors everywhere. Suddenly they checked my oxygen. Suddenly they rushed me to imaging. CT scan: pulmonary embolism. Blood clots in my lungs. The same doctor who told me to “relax” came back acting shocked. He said, “Good thing you came in.” I looked at him and thought: I didn’t just come in. I begged to be taken seriously. Why am I telling you this? Because if I didn’t collapse in front of them, I genuinely think I would’ve been sent home with “anxiety” and a pamphlet about breathing exercises

what’s a clear example of medical misogyny you’ve witnessed or experienced?

Just saw a instagram reel where a man left his sick wife in the hospital when he find out she has ovarian cancer. Doctors told him they need to operate and her both ovaries would be removed but its the only way to save her life.... This grown ass man was crying in the video that he left his wife cause he always dreamed of having a family and he can't compromise on that. Your wife is dying and still all your care about is yourself and your dreams ?? Is she a baby machine for you? And at the end of video he said "my life is ruined cause of marrying her"..... i have no words"

@ThePOTSPostman I had Sydenham s chorea when I was 12.. started as thematic fever and destroyed my heart valves ... triage nurse in royal Victoria hospital for sick kids thought I was faking ... 2 weeks in hospital, a term on home school and 2 years of penicillin disputed that.

A lot of people with chronic illness don’t avoid the emergency room because they’re“tough.” We avoid it because of how often we’re dismissed. So I’m curious. What’s something the ER treated like “nothing” that actually wasn’t?

Poor Walter was sat minding his own business on our adventure walk this morning, and another dog came from nowhere and attacked him. He was screaming. I genuinely thought he was a goner. No wonder he's reactive it's the 7th time he's been attacked. Furious!!!!!?

This is v sad. 30 years ago I was diagnosed with Sydenham s chorea .. took ages to get that diagnosis .. even though my mum was telling the Dr's that from the start.. who wanted to diagnose it as psychological... A year later the hyponatreima deaths happened in the same hospital

Mia died on a children’s psychiatric ward in Sheffield in January 2024. She had been sectioned after what doctors described as an ‘acute psychotic episode’. Instead of asking what else might be happening in her brain and immune system that caused sudden onset of total behavioural and emotional change, plus many concerning physical symptoms, clinicians decided there was ‘no underlying physical cause’ and passed her on to mental health services. We now know – because someone finally did the right tests after she died – that Mia had autoimmune encephalitis: a form of brain inflammation in which the immune system attacks the brain, causing dramatic onset symptoms including agitation, seizures and changes in personality and behaviour that are usually totally out of character. The coroner heard that if a lumbar puncture and further neurological investigations had been done before she was transferred to the Becton Centre, there was a chance her condition could have been identified and treated. The jury concluded that the failure to do that ‘possibly contributed’ to her death. Mia’s mother, Chloe, says she believes her daughter was simply dismissed and pushed into mental health services as quickly as possible. I believe her. Totally. I think she is right. And I know Mia is not an isolated case, because we have already watched this happen to other young women – including Lucy Dawson, who I had the privilege of talking to and writing about for my book in 2022, ‘Sexy But Psycho’. This is pathologisation. This is misogyny. This is the true legacy of psychiatry. My full article is now available.
