I’m on my way to meet with transit workers right now, but I have to talk about this first.   This is bullshit. Doug Ford is changing the rules so that he and his ministers never have to answer to you. Ever.   Freedom of Information laws are how journalists, researchers, and regular people find out what the government is actually doing with your tax dollars. That's how we found out about the Greenbelt scandal. The Ontario Place spa deal. All of it. Now he wants to exempt himself, his cabinet, and their offices from those laws. Completely.    He's not trying to protect one document. He's trying to make sure you can never find out what he's hiding. An honest government doesn't do that. And we're not going to let him get away with it.

Tenants visited Tony Irwin the CEO of FRPO-the main landlord lobby behind #Bill60-to ask questions about the bill that will make it easier and faster for landlords to evict tenants. Tell Doug Ford and Tony Irwin keep their hands off our rights! tenantunion.ca/fightbill60 #ONpoli

The Ford government is investing in more private clinics as Ontario hospitals plead for funding. The govt has also directed hospitals to submit “detailed governance information” which the opposition describes as an unusual demand: “this is how it all started with school boards.”

.@TorontoStar: "Ford has also said that these cameras “aren’t even close to school areas.” "A Star analysis showed that all of Toronto’s 150 cameras are in either a community or school safety zone — as mandated by provincial regulations." *Mississauga: only in front of schools.

So far Mark Carney’s “nation building” projects just seem anti union… laying off workers and giving handouts to billionaires! Let’s get real and put the money towards projects that will make a significant difference like this ⤵️
Avi Lewis@avilewis

Getting to work or school everyday shouldn’t be the Hunger Games. That’s why I was proud to join UBC staff and students at their rally demanding that the UBC Skytrain Extension finally be built. The federal government needs to step up and start funding public transit like the vital public service it is.

Mark Carney needs to put CUPW ahead of his banking buddies and expand Canada Post into banking. And cancel the involvement of Purolator. We need to remind Carney he wasn’t elected to serve his billionaire buddies, it was to serve ordinary Canadians!
Don Davies@DonDavies

Canada Post is a national institution and vital public service. Yet the Liberals announced plans to dismantle it in the midst of collective bargaining—interfering in negotiations and showing deep disrespect for workers’ rights. The NDP stands with Canada's postal workers. 🇨🇦📬

The relentless increase in Oil and Gas production in Canada has already cancelled out all GHG reductions in all other sectors and made us a climate pariah in the G7. And there's no business case for another oil pipeline to tidewater - that's why the Big Oil subsidiary known as the AB UCP government has to front this. The time is past for showering any more public money on the most profitable industry in history, and we need to move our economy beyond oil and gas urgently - the planet is on fire, it’s still in our lungs from this past smoke season. Let's roll out renewables and storage with wartime scale and urgency instead. And let's take care of fossil fuel workers while we do it - no way a single worker should pay for this. In fact, the oil industry keeps showing us that they're happy to increase production while shedding their workforce. Why would we keep rewarding that behaviour? archive.is/yekwj theglobeandmail.com/business/artic…

BREAKING: Ontario’s Auditor General says Ford’s Skills Development Fund process was “not fair, transparent or accountable.” Add it to the pile. Greenbelt: “Not transparent, objective or fully informed.” Ontario Place: “Not fair, transparent or accountable.” Doug Ford has no respect for taxpayer dollars — and while 800,000 Ontarians look for jobs, he only delivers scandals.

When I covered the war in Ukraine in 2022, I had the benefit of advanced hostile environment training, a talented news team around me including a former British military officer helping with our safety—and a very supportive employer. Of course there were dangers. But like every journalist I agreed to accept the terms. But the journalists covering this war are in an almost impossible position. 👇

"For twenty months, I’ve been telling myself, ‘It’s almost over, the war will end soon’. But it doesn’t end. Our bodies are exhausted, our equipment is worn out, but we keep going with the coverage." -- Gaza journalist Abdullah Miqdad told @BBC. Read the full story: bbc.com/news/articles/…
