When I read this - I interpreted it as. Cate said. “Zack Polanski brings un-credible hope to the gullible and the stupid that things can be better. I believe the best place for me to support myself and to insulate my income to which i am entitled from the impending demise of the Labour Party is from the Green benches.” Much more honest. The people of Norwich are not daft.

Rachel Reeves lack of compassion would almost be comedic if it wasn’t so egregious, dangerous & repulsive. They think cutting benefits for disabled people is like cutting pocket money for a teenager. Their message: “Get a Saturday job” Labour is rancid Labour is finished.

@SaulStaniforth @labourlewis Who looked the other way? It's been covered in the media for years. Complaints have been made to Labour directors that remain unanswered for years. The party played a numbers game to get into power. But it's not moral, nor is it sustainable. We deserve a better Labour Party.

Some saying re yet another predicted energy price rise "why aren't you calling out corporate greed? " Well because it's irrelevant. An energy firms job isn't to keep our prices low, it's to make money for their shareholders (we as a nation sold them off in privatisation) As it stands its the regulator Ofgem and government who's job is to protect consumers from overly high prices. And that's where the issues lie. The price cap isn't set by firms, they aren't increasing it, its set by the regulator. It's a turgid system (that was pushed on the regulator by a past govt) and it's allowed firms to price to the max of the cap without pushing them hard enough to offer cheaper deals. I've long campaigned for change both in public, through official submissions and in private (so much so I ended up losing my rag and publically apologised for swearing in a meet with ofgem). We need a social tariff! I've long also called out excessive standing charges. Long said the market stabilisation charge (now thankfully gone) should end, as should, temporarily, the ban on acquisition only tariffs. I've said the ombudsman is too weak to enforce. I've said what makes up the price lacks transparency... the direct debit system is abused by firms to sit on too much cash... smart meter roll out is mistargeted and more. Yet of course my prime aim is to help consumers navigate this. The real excess profits aren't made by energy retailers (the regulated ones who supply us as consumers) but by the generators who aren't regulated by Ofgem (though in some cases horizontal integration means they're the same firm but they aren't legally allowed to cross subsidise). Our wholesale pricing structure has rewarded them by paying the highest price (eg gas) even when it's a far cheaper source (though that's outside my expertise area, so I don't comment much on it) The whole consumer energy market is mostly broken. We have a model based on competition but then 80% of homes are on regulated pricing, possibly the worst of both worlds. The issues are with the regulator and politicians (and govts of all colours have faded on this) to put the structures in place to protect consumers. It needs a fundamental rethink. Sadly, I don't see that happening no matter who is in govt. I won't stop pushing for change though

Last night at Lewisham Full Council, I asked Mayor @Brenda_Dacres to validate abuse survivors of UCKG (Universal Church of the Kingdom of God), thus following in the footsteps of @SouthwarkCofE's recent apology. She not only refused - she ignored the concerns and accused me of politicising the issue. Is this the kind of experience survivors can expect from the Council/Safeguarding should they choose to report?

@owenjonesjourno My dad's in hospital in the UK and I can't fathom how he would fare in this situation. I just can't understand how we can treat people like this when they are at their most vulnerable.

Imagine a state hostile to the West was doing this. Western politicians and media outlets would denounce this alone as one of the most evil acts imaginable. But this is a Western ally, so they don’t. The world can see that, and the world is not going to forget it.

@Onebiskuit @jemmaforte @MarinaPurkiss @UKLabour @Keir_Starmer Sadly Paul I think that's over optimistic. Reform voters are not likely to be deterred by concerns about Musk's stroppy toddler mentality when they have Farage in charge peddling wilful ignorance. Don't underestimate him - he's largely responsible for tanking the economy.

@Loster @DrAllyLouks I can't speak to Tory vetting processes, personally, but any time there's some awful behaviour that's revealed, isn't it always the case that some people knew all along? Within political parties and other institutions too.

@Loster @DrAllyLouks I think we should expect better vetting of candidates at all levels tbh. Even if you are a paper candidate it confers status. Even if people don't like your politics or party you aren't just Mr X. For balance I've just been watching documentary on Jared O'Mara with horror!

I’m sure many will have seen this tweet (or screenshots of it) from a Conservative local election candidate, which was made in reply to a post about a man leaving his long-term partner for a 22-year-old Ukrainian refugee, seemingly justifying the man’s actions.

@Loster @DrAllyLouks Do you mean he stood as a Tory councillor? Because he would need to be selected by the Conservative Party to stand as a Tory cllr. Even if he wasn't elected. You don't just say you are a Tory candidate because you are a Conservative yourself. So if true, it's relevant.

@DrAllyLouks Very revealing for how media works. The fact the "Tory counsellor" was added to the story (I think by The Guardian) was done so as a political swipe. Does it matter that anyone can stand & that he got nowhere near being elected? No it's a useful association, so they use it.

@owenjonesjourno Finally it is very similar to what happened to a relative with gallstones earlier this year. Am in no way a dr but maybe ask if that could be possible and keep an eye out for jaundice which is what gave a good indication, confirmed by blood tests and scan. Get well soon!

@owenjonesjourno Presumably you won't be discharged until they find out why you are experiencing this? I find it always helpful to ask what could be causing it. And then asking what else it could be. Simple questions but it keeps everyone's minds on what's beyond the immediate situation.

Sorry to bore with the health stuff, but got very helpful advice yesterday, and maybe it'll help others. So every time I eat or drink water it's excruciatingly painful, so unsurprisingly I ended up in dehydrated. The very lovely crew at Ambulatory Care in UCLH put me on a drip and gave me a litre of water, then PPI. I'm on Lansoprazole 30mg twice a day for the last 53 hours, before that Omeprazole, and Dihydrocodeine 30mg every few hours with paracetamol. Unfortunately despite all that, and this started on Monday, I feel worse than ever today. Tried eating a couple of grains of rice this morning. Immediate horrendous burning pain around my chest area. Even a big sip of water sets that off. Haven't meaningfully eaten since Tuesday lunchtime. Any advice welcome! I'm obviously going to have to get rehydrated again, but not being able to eat is obviously an issue, and obviously I can't do any work which sucks. Any advice welcome! I'm very privileged to have never been really ill, so this has given me new insight. I've only had a few days of this, and clearly it sucks, so been thinking a lot about people who have chronic illnesses which go on for years. Anyway, fingers crossed this doesn't drag on indefinitely 🙏

OK so, against my better judgement, I've developed some health issue and wanted to see if anyone else has gone through this in the hope you can help... First thing on Monday it felt like I had heartburn when I ate, so I started taking Gaviscon. Anyway, it got worse and worse. On Tuesday morning I got some Omeprazole (20mg). Throughout the day, a burning sensation in my stomach became a constant. In the evening, it got a lot worse, and got combined with a very bad headache. We called 111, they wanted to send an ambulance, but went to A&E on our own steam, they did an ECG which was all normal. They prescribed Lansoprazole 30mg and Dihydrocodeine 30mg. I saw my GP yesterday, and he ruled out e.g. stomach perforation or ulcer. He thought it oesophagitis, though pointed out that just meant my oesophagus was inflamed for an unknown reason. He did say he'd never come across such a severe case before and found that curious but didn't think necessarily meant cause for an alarm. But despite being on treatment, I had the worst night last night - thanks to severe burning pain in my stomach. I haven't had a meal since Tuesday afternoon, and eating even tiny amounts of food sets off hideous levels of stomach burning. Drinking water is a struggle - I can only get away with sipping, otherwise, again, it's unbelievably painful. I don't have any other symptoms at all. I don't feel nauseous in the slightest. I actually feel hungry and would love to eat a proper meal. My energy levels are pretty good given the circumstances. So basically what the fuck is going on here? I'm actually now clinging on to a Gaviscon allergy - that I did have mild heartburn and I've been drinking poison without realising it, and if I stop taking it, things will go back to normal. When I take it - e.g. before going to bed last night - it burned badly and seemed to set off the severe pain. But I don't know if that's just because anything I ingest sets it off. Sorry to throw this at you but I'm obviously a bit fed up about it all and would love to find out if anyone else has gone through this or there's any pointers...

@owenjonesjourno Also it doesn't seem wise to eat anything given the effect of two grains of rice unless medical professionals advise it. Maybe in the longer term the suggestions on here might help.
