I was so confused

Heat across the Southern Plains will expand north and east through the middle of next week as ridging builds across most of the East. Widespread high temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s and above average low temperatures will bring Moderate to isolated Major heat risk.

Tri-Cities had a low of 32° this morning, making it the 3rd latest freeze on record (1938 - present), beaten only by May 16, 1997 and May 22, 2002.

Frost is likely occurring in parts of the region this morning with temperatures bottoming out lower than forecasted in some cases. We will rebound to the 70s this afternoon with summer heat on the way!

Weekly Drought Update No change for the Tri-Cities area, but the extreme drought (level 3 of 4) has expanded into Smyth and eastern Washington County, VA (in red). This has been the 5th driest Spring on record in the Tri-Cities (and driest since 1986).

Tri-Cities: Partly sunny and very cool for Thursday with highs only in the low 60s. An isolated shower cannot be ruled out. Very chilly Friday morning with upper 30s in spots! An isolated shower cannot be ruled out. 70s return by Friday, 80s by Saturday and 90° next week!

(1/2) Heat is expected to arrive this weekend and persist into next week! We also stay mostly dry until our next best chance of rain around the middle of next week.
