Despite looking forward to opening the new Ayrshire Hospice facility in early 2025, our CEO expresses her significant concern about the funding of independent Hospices in Scotland. Thank you to Helen McArdle at @heraldscotland for publishing this letter from the Scottish Hospice Leadership Group about the current Hospice funding crisis.
Tracy Flynn, CEO of the Ayrshire Hospice voices: “Our charity feels enormous pressure to keep apace with NHS salary rises and we do not have the funds we require to innovate the way we would like to. The National Insurance hike alone will add approximately £183,000 a year to the Ayrshire Hospice’s salary bill.
“We are extremely fortunate that the community of Ayrshire and Arran are so supportive of our charity and it is our belief that Hospice care should always be free, and it is our privilege to deliver palliative and end-of-life care. We are closely supported by our partners in NHS Ayrshire & Arran and are committed to excellence in all we do.”
Tracy is proud to stand with her CEO colleagues from independent Hospices across Scotland in escalating the plight of Hospices. We believe this is not fair, the current funding arrangement is inadequate and inequitable for our sector. Hospices and everyone they care for deserve so much more.
