Bullpen Notes 🗒️(4/10) PIT: Dennis Santana got his 1st save of the year finally!! He pitched the against the bottom part of the lineup so in all reality Soto did the heavy lifting in the 8th. The Cubs do have a lot of LHB which is why Soto was used in the 8th. I still feel like this is a committee and I do think it's closer to 50/50 than other people out there. Both Santana and Soto deserve to be rostered right now. ARI: Are we looking at a good bullpen here? Loáisiga had the end of the 6th and some of the 7th and had 3 strikeouts. Morillo took the last of the 7th and the 8th with 3 strikeouts. Sewald picked up the save in the 9th allowing a two out triple but getting the last out. Sewald at the very least has added some back end stability to this team. At this point Sewald is gonna close and should be rostered and Morillo and Loáisiga are both somewhat sneaky holds options. Right now the bullpen is clicking. DET: Big Strong Ken 💪 picked up a save. Nice to see him finally get a chance. I think he has a real shot to put together a terrific year. They used Finnegan in the 8th so we didn't have to deal with any of Will Vest's 🐂💩 tonight. MIN: The Twins pretty much force me to talk about them nightly. Tonight it was bad as Rogers and Topa pitched in a blowout. Each gave up a run. This is why I warn you about rostering guys from MIN. Low chance of saves high chance of ERA and WHIP damage on any given night. The bullpen is only for the most desperate. ATH: Somewhat interesting night for the Athletics with Mark Leiter pitching the 5th. It was his first appearance after that blow up the other night. They used Jack Perkins for 2+ innings so I think we can cross him off the list of potential closers. Elvis Alvarado found himself pitching the 9th with a 4 run lead. Not sure if he was the only guy up or if he came on just because they tacked on a run. Either way he has looked good and I always said he has the best stuff in the bullpen. I still dont think anyone is worth rostering. Same as MIN. Chasing a rare save isnt worth the potential ERA/WHIP damage. TBR: We got a nice look at the current hierarchy in Tampa. Jax had the 6th against the 3,4,5 got a couple K's. He's looking better and is still pitching against the other teams big guns. They used Seymour and than Biggie in the 7th and 8th. Biggie has pitched in pressure situations since getting called up. Baker took the 9th and while he gave up a couple singles to start the inning he rallied and got the next three batters. The conversion is what is important. I hope as he becomes more accustom to the 9th he will have an easier time but it is important to get out of jams. It's the most pressure you can have as a pitcher. Keep adding Baker. SFG: Winn pitched the 7th with a 5 run lead. Probably more of a work day than anything. Walker still likely the closer but his grip on the role is loose right now. Manager is using a nontraditional approach. Be carful here. KCR: We had last call on Lucas Erceg earlier this week. He's the closer here and he did what closers do. MIL: Pretty brutal outing for Megill. He struggled to field his position and allowed guys to reach on two bunts while another bunt scored a run. He also hit a batter. It was a tie game appearance so I don't think this hurts his chance of closing out games but it wasn't an ideal night for fantasy players. Chalk it up to an off night and he should still see the next save chance. WSN: Rare good night from the Nats bullpen. Perez had the 7th Poulin took the 8th and Beeter had the 9th with a 4 run lead. No runs were allowed. You would like to see a similar set up to this nightly with Beeter as the last man out but dont expect it too often. Hopefully this is the start of a new trend. STL: I think we can make it official. Riley O'Brien is the new closer of the Cards. He has now converted 4 times and with Stanek and Romero relegated to the innings prior. I do think Romero could sneak a chance or two in at times mainly against LHP (Im looking at you Cubbies) but for now ROB should be added as the closer in every format. SDP: Miller pitched a 3rd straight day which is surprising considering how early in the year it is. He was great and got the win. That is why he is number 1. Adrian Morejon blew another save in the 8th and his struggles continue. Jeremiah Estrada hit the IL but Jason Adam was back to replace him. Some bullpen issues prior to the 9th but they should be able to work that out. COL: Vodnik had pitched two innings last night so he wasn't available. That lead to Mejia shitting the bed in the bottom of the 9th. As hard as he can throw he doesn't seem to be closer material. Tonight the game was tied but this outing probably helped Vodnik more than anything. SEA: It took a minute but congratulations to Andrés Muñoz on his 1st save of the season. He's still one of the top options in the league so lets hope this is 1 of 40. TEX: Some interesting usage here. Garcia was the 1st man out of the bullpen in the 6th and he promptly blew the lead pretty much as expected. He was on to face two LHB to start but stayed in against the RHB and gave up 2 runs. After that with the team down they went to Beeks and Curvelo. They tied the game in the 9th but brought in Jacob Latz who allowed a game ending home run. Clearly they were playing matchups here as the LAD have lots of LHB in the lineup but I am surprised none of the RHP got into the game. Anyway hopefully this shuts up the late inning Latz guys out there. He isn't that kind of pitcher. LAD: Rare blown save from Edwin Diaz. He allowed a 2 run homer and a couple more hits that brought in a run. Unless some injury news breaks im not real concerned.
