So it seems that Seaspan wasn’t the only Canadian shipyard critical of BC Ferries’ bid process- Aug 1. letter from Davie Shipyard: “B.C. Ferries has claimed a lack of interest from Canadian suppliers in bidding for this project. However, given that this was the largest non-governmental ship procurement in recent Canadian history, Davie was extremely interested and pre-qualified specifically for the Spirit Class ferries- the vessels central to this review. Unfortunately, the procurement criteria were heavily weighted toward the lowest price, effectively favouring Chinese shipyards.”
