Romania answered America's call for help after 9/11 as did many other NATO members, big and small. Our soldiers were deployed there for 19 years. 27 Romanian soldiers were killed and 200 were wounded in Afghanistan. I met on of them in a hospital recently. He lost a leg to an IED and has to get treatment for the rest of his life. I have only one question for the American cousinfuckers who are now saying NATO allies are unreliable and ungrateful: How many Israeli soldiers fought and died for the US in Afghanistan?

@RonnieAdkins I think most GWOT vets probably feel similarly. None of us have any love for Iran or really any country in the region but we also see no point in our continued intervention there. Iran was a regional threat sure, but lack ability to project force here. So why are we there?

I spent 15 years in the Intelligence Community. One of my takeaways from that time is that Iran is and always was a threat to the United States. Imminence is relative, and this takeaway has a basis in my observations, nobody else’s. I’m not afraid of having that position (because it’s my own), and it certainly has nothing to do with any other country. My positions are entirely threat based and from a career of dealing with them. What that means as far as actions we need to take is more complex for me from a “position” standpoint. I simply don’t know what I don’t know, but I know what I’d need to and don’t have access to it. That relative imminence. I’m certainly not upset that Iran got smacked in the pee pee (a lot), as I’ve said. The long game is just harder to have a solid feelgood on. One thing I’m very not interested in is another generation of our Nations best being broken through perpetual combat. This type of position seems to be impossible for some to internalize in a for or against world, but it is mine. Take it or leave it, it matters to you only as much as you want it to.
