@agreatdayinnc @CatholicCharm Looking for better options for fertility treatment or permanent birth control?

English

@CatholicCharm I How is it possible unless you are going thru fertility treatments? I’ve only ever heard of knowing which side the egg came from when having an IUI or timed intercourse bc they are monitoring you by ultrasound
So I’m curious, how can they tell?

@TheOmniLiberal Looking for better options for permanent birth control, or fertility treatment?

English

@xevekiah I had three doctors use the exact same logic to refuse me a tubal ligation. I have a condition that means pregnancy/birth will almost certainly kill me AND the baby, but who cares about that? My future husband might want kids and I'm expendable!
English

I NEEDED an IUD. I have endometriosis. I vomit from pain every month. I miss work. I pass out.
Doctor:
“Are you married?”
“What if your future husband doesn’t like IUDs?”
“Some men say they can feel it.”
“You should discuss contraception with your partner.”
I said I live alone. I pay my own bills. I am the one bleeding on bathroom tiles.
He said:
“Well, fertility is a shared decision.”
Shared.
With a man that does not exist.

what’s a clear example of medical misogyny you’ve witnessed or experienced?

Congratulations to @EricBoodman for this brilliant narrative about tubal ligation and RFK Jr. It was just named a National Magazine Award finalist for feature writing. statnews.com/2025/09/08/pos…

For generations, a married woman could not consent to her own surgery or medical decisions, her husband signed for her.If she wanted a tubal ligation, a hysterectomy, or even certain treatments, she needed his written approval. The idea was that her body affected “his family line,” so he had legal authority. Think about the indignity: a grown woman, capable of childbirth and survival, unable to sign for her own health. The right to medical autonomy for women is shockingly recent and still contested in many places.

@JimA146637 @ThoughtCrimes80 it’s a medieval procedure to do for a doctor nowadays. It’s what they do in African tribes along with the #FGM Read about it?
English

Her OBGYN gave her a “husband stitch” after her last baby, which required a surgical fix.
Her doctor even joked about it, to their horror.
She’s currently trying to sue the doctor, but nobody will take her case.
Someone take this case. That’s the last area you ever want someone meddling. How unprofessional. Good grief. 😬

Opportunistic bilateral salpingectomy reduces the risk of serous ovarian cancer by more than 75% compared with hysterectomy or tubal ligation, research suggests.

@kristatee @placentadoc @DrJenGunter This is absolute BS and has no place in Gyn in Canada (or anywhere)
Count me in as a surgeon who would perform a tubal ligation with the only permission that counts - informed consent from the patient. Period.
English

Cape Breton woman denied tubal ligation by gynecologist Dr. Moodley. He said she needs husband's permission to get it done, and no doctor in Canada would perform it on someone without permission.

My mom did tubal ligation and had my sister. She didn't talk to the OB for nine years! Lolol
Boogie@nnboogie
I am curious to hear what the doctors say, but my aunt did have one and got an infection after. She died in hospital ☹️. I've heard of women getting a prolapse too.

Getting weird on here with all the vasectomy vs. tubal ligation debates lol
I have zero interest in telling anyone what to do, but I do want to correct a myth I keep seeing about tubal ligation and hysterectomy risk.
Some earlier studies showed slightly higher hysterectomy rates in women who had tubal ligations (aka tubes tied), but that’s because many of those women already had underlying gynecologic issues (fibroids, heavy bleeding). Larger studies have shown no correlation.
Another thing worth noting: salpingectomy (removing the fallopian tubes completely) lowers ovarian cancer risk, because many ovarian cancers actually start in the fallopian tubes.
Just sharing info. Don’t care what you do 🫡
English

Tubal ligations performed 2x more than vasectomies in US—why? Vasectomy: 0.1% failure, quick 7-8 min outpatient local. Tubal: 0.5% failure (5x higher), abdominal surgery. Women have sacrificed enough. Men: step up—simple, effective, cheap. #Vasectomy #MensHealth

@one_eloka @oracle_76 @NeonAdejo I'll get the best doctor to try other options like IVF, IUI, and ICSI. One will work.

Stop attacking pastors over what the government should be responsible for, you didn’t elect pastors into office. The constant criticism of men of God needs to stop. We keep focusing on minor issues while ignoring the major ones.
We are all responsible for building a better Nigeria, not just spiritual leaders.
As long as you carry a Nigerian passport, you count.
