🚨 ENDORSEMENT 🚨 This morning, Fox & Friends weekend panel unanimously endorsed the Defend the Guard Act. H.B. 229, which passed the New Hampshire House of Representatives on Thursday, would prohibit the deployment of the state’s National Guard into overseas combat without a declaration of war from Congress. @PeteHegseth, a National Guardsman and veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan, said “New Hampshire is simply pointing out that it’s supposed to be Congress that declares war. It has become an executive branch function, and as a result unless the Congress declares war, New Hampshire doesn’t have to send troops for foreign wars. To me it makes a lot of sense. I spent most of my career as a National Guardsman, deployed multiple times with the National Guard to foreign wars. We got used to the idea that state National Guard are part of expeditionary forces, which is not traditionally the use of a National Guard. And so this is New Hampshire saying we don’t trust how the federal government is going to use our troops, so we’re willing to commit them when the American people, through their elected branch in Congress, commits those troops to a foreign war, then you can. I love this idea. I’m sure the National Guard Bureau is [grumbles]. I love states exerting their influence through a system of federalism, and the idea of protecting the prerogative of—why are we sending some young guy from New Hampshire to the eastern province of Afghanistan when you have a northern border problem, or floods that happen in New Hampshire and they’re not there to provide support for that? It’s an interesting development, it’ll be interesting to see if other legislatures do this and how the military reacts to it.” Former White House Press Secretary @kayleighmcenany asked “But why are states having to tell the federal government [to] abide by the letter of the Constitution? I love it as well, but it’s an unfortunate state of affairs when the states are having to say abide by the text.” @willcain previously endorsed our bill when he interviewed our Chairman @DanMcKnight30 while guest hosting Tucker Carlson Tonight.

The truth? I used to be pro-war. I was a teenager when 9/11 happened. We watched live as the towers fell. We were terrified and confused. We had no idea why anyone would want to hurt America. “Why?!” Was the question on almost every Americans lips. “Because you are rich and free,” said the Bush Administration. “Oh,” we replied, still confused. Then they said we had to defend America. And that questioning the wars was anti-soldier. And that Bush needed us to unite behind him to ensure 9/11 would never happen again. I voted for Bush — first time voting. I thought it was okay that we invaded Iraq. I believed my president when he said it must be done. I watched boys from my high school go to war. I saw Bush make not finding weapons a joke… I saw them hang Saddam, and felt shame when the torture pictures were leaked… And through it all, the question still lingered, why? During Ron Paul’s presidential campaign, I heard him talk about “blowback” and how our current foreign policy was making us more unsafe, less free, and bankrupting us. That message resonated more than “they hate us because we’re rich and free.” I was gripped and spent weeks of my life researching our foreign policy. Now, I speak up against the wars that are plundering my nation. And I resolutely support the Defend the Guard movement, a fast - growing coalition that is trying to make it so our Montana guardsmen CANNOT be sent to war unless Congress votes for it … something they haven’t done since the 1940s. Every time the Defend the Guard bill is at the Capitol I’ve gone down to testify. Often, it’s discouraging. -We’re given, at most, 2 minutes to talk. -The war machine is always two steps ahead of us. -Very old men cuss at us because they think we’re dishonoring the sacrifice of the soldiers by trying to stop the bleeding. -Young soldiers beg to be heard while our legislators ignore them in favor of the military brass and big business. We haven’t been able to pass it yet… and, now I wonder, if we had, would have other states followed suit? Would we have succeeded in crippling our corrupt foreign policy that is making old war profiteers rich off the blood of our soldiers? Would we have been able to stop the next Vietnam or Iraq… or, dare I say, Iranian War? I don’t know. I can’t go back and change the past. But I know I will be at the Capitol supporting this bill every time it’s presented. Hopefully this next time as a Senator, who will be given more than two minutes to stop a war.

Just collecting high-ranking US government officials' statements. Joe Kent, Director of National Counterterrorism Center: "Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby." Marco Rubio, Secretary of State: "We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action, we knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces, and we knew that if we didn’t preemptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties and perhaps even higher those killed, and then we would all be here answering questions about why we knew that and didn’t act." Donald Trump, President: "They were getting ready to attack Israel." Karoline Leavitt, Press Secretary: "No such threat from Iran to our homeland exists, and it never did." Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House: "Israel was determined to act with or without us." Pentagon brief to Congress (reported by Reuters): "Trump administration officials acknowledged in closed-door briefings with congressional staff on Sunday that there was no intelligence suggesting Iran planned to attack U.S. forces first." Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, in March 2025: "The IC continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized the nuclear weapons program that he suspended in 2003." Mark Warner, Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee: "There was no imminent threat to the United States of America by the Iranians. There was a threat to Israel."

“The Commander-in-Chief determines what does and does not constitute a threat, because he is the one constitutionally empowered to do so…” WRONG! The Constitution empowers CONGRESS to deliberate on matters of war and peace. Our Founders did not design a government where ONE MAN holds the singular authority to declare war, like the king they had just defeated—that power was given to the people’s elected representatives.
Karoline Leavitt@PressSec

There are many false claims in this letter but let me address one specifically: that "Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation."   This is the same false claim that Democrats and some in the liberal media have been repeating over and over.   As President Trump has clearly and explicitly stated, he had strong and compelling evidence that Iran was going to attack the United States first.   This evidence was compiled from many sources and factors. President Trump would never make the decision to deploy military assets against a foreign adversary in a vacuum.   Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. The Iranian regime is evil. It proudly killed Americans, waged war against our country, and openly threatened us all the way up to the launch of Operation Epic Fury.   Iran was aggressively expanding their short-range ballistic missiles to combine with their naval assets to give themselves immunity – meaning they would have a degree of a capabilities that would give them immunity to hold us and the rest of the world hostage.   The regime aimed to use those ballistic missiles as a shield to continue achieving their ultimate goal – nuclear weapons.   The President, through his top negotiators, gave the regime every single possible opportunity to abandon this unacceptable course by permanently giving up their nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief, free nuclear fuel, and potential economic partnerships with our country.   But they would not say yes to peace because obtaining nuclear weapons was their fundamental goal.   President Trump ultimately made the determination that a joint attack with Israel would greatly reduce the risk to American lives that would come from a first strike by the terrorist Iranian regime and address this imminent threat to America’s national security interests.   All of this led to President Trump arriving at the determination that this military operation was necessary for U.S. national security, which is why he launched the massively successful Operation Epic Fury. The Commander-in-Chief determines what does and does not constitute a threat, because he is the one constitutionally empowered to do so - and because the American people went to the ballot box and entrusted him and him alone to make such final judgments. And finally, the absurd allegation that President Trump made this decision based on the influence of others, even foreign countries, is both insulting and laughable. President Trump has been remarkably consistent and has said for DECADES that Iran can NEVER possess a nuclear weapon. As someone who actually witnesses President Trump’s decision-making process on a daily basis, I can attest to the fact that he is always looking to do what’s in the best interest of the United States of America — period. America First.

My highest admiration for @joekent16jan19 on his action to resign today. I had the pleasure of meeting Joe when I was within days of working alongside him in the ODNI last year, and his action today shows a level of principle and moral courage unlike anything seen in Washington, DC in my living memory. To resign on principle is hard enough. To also bluntly state why - that the President of the United States was deceived into a war against Iran that was unjust and unnecessary - puts him in a new category. May others follow his courageous lead...

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

In 2009, when I resigned over the escalation of the Afghan War and received tremendous media attention, it took a week or two for the smear campaign against me to begin. Ultimately, General Petraeus and Central Command hired a strategic communications firm to discredit and denigrate me. Today, the “important background” about Kent came in less than an hour following reports of his resignation. American media has changed so greatly in those 17 years, not simply with the introduction and adoption of smart phones and social media, but with the near total compliance of traditional, legacy and corporate media with the American national security establishment. Yes, a mutually beneficial relationship existed two decades ago between the national security establishment and the corporate media, but not to the degree it exists today. I hope Joe Kent gets front page coverage on the Washington Post and is interviewed on the Today Show as I was, but I suspect corporate media will quickly ignore him or offer the Administration’s smears with as much weight as his protest and criticism.

In a town where people cling to power at all costs, Joe Kent just walked away from it. He fought from the inside as long as he could. When it became clear that the push toward war with Iran wasn’t going to stop, he refused to be part of it. That’s what principle looks like. When the fight inside the system becomes pointless, the only honorable move is to resign and fight from the outside. Respect, Joe.
