So let’s get this straight. Mark Carney stood in front of cameras and assured Canadians he raised human rights and foreign interference with Beijing, said it plainly, repeatedly, confidently. And now his own government quietly admits… he didn’t.
It’s almost impressive, the speed at which “clear-eyed” turns into carefully avoided. Canadians get the speeches about democracy, climate change, and human rights. Beijing gets the silence, the deals, and the smiles. And somehow we’re all expected to pretend those two versions of reality don’t exist at the same time.
