If Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were asking for my advice, I would tell him to reject any American intervention in Lebanon outright and refuse to even discuss the issue. This is none of America’s business. The United States has every right to handle its own surrender agreement with Iran however it wants. Israel has nothing to do with it.

The Israeli government is alarmed at developments in the negotiations regarding Lebanon. Iran is not just back at the table. It is claiming primacy in Lebanon and the US is allowing it: 1) The MOU folded Lebanon into the Iran deal. A Middle East official told CBS that Rubio had fought to keep the two tracks separate. The first point of the MOU declares a permanent end to the Lebanon conflict. Israeli officials called that a concession to Iran by Trump's envoys. 2) The de-confliction cell proves it. Qatar and Pakistan announced it June 21. It is a US-Iran track that includes the Lebanese government and excludes Israel. 3) Tehran said Saturday it would close the Strait of Hormuz again, citing one trigger: Israeli troops have not left southern Lebanon. Iran is treating south Lebanon as a file it negotiates. It is speaking for Beirut. The US is recognizing this. 4) Herzog voiced the Israeli frustration: "Iran cannot be involved in Lebanon." He warned peace fails "if Iran has so much leverage." Bottom line: Tehran now speaks for Lebanon, conditions the Strait on Israeli troop movements, and sits as a principal while Israel waits for a readout. Israelis are beginning to understand that they are being left out of the important decisions.

This deal might very well become the straw that broke the camel’s back and the thing that causes the total unraveling of US/Israel relations. If the deal includes Israel withdrawing from Lebanon for example, Trump has no right to commit to that and Israel will hopefully refuse. Trump won’t like that and seeing the things he’s said these past few days about Bibi, he is already slowly starting to sound like some other people who have chosen the wrong side. Many of the details of the deal as are being reported now will absolutely force Israel to defy Trump and reject his demands of Israel. That won’t end well. I sure hope I’m wrong and this whole deal falls apart. Crazier things have happened but as it stands, scary times ahead.

I don’t understand who is going to invest in a $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran. The U.S. is not doing so, and why would the Qataris or any other country in the Middle East that was just attacked by Iran invest one penny to support Iran’s reconstruction? Most of the damage inflicted on Iran was directed to military targets. Why would anyone want to help Iran rebuild its military capabilities? Even if the funds were limited to humanitarian-related infrastructure, if there is such a thing, money is fungible, and we know the first freed up dollar will go to rebuild Iran’s ballistic and nuclear capabilities. What am I missing?
