So I started writing long-form thoughts on film/TV for a shared Patreon and will share my articles from it. Currently available at the $5 tier and above(this may change later), this one is about the sex scene discourse that has popped up on here patreon.com/posts/10695069…

the bar for resistance is set lower and lower. cracking open a cold one with the boys is a radical act. Petting a dog is a tiny rebellion. Making a peanut butter sandwich is a reclamation. A self-congratulatory, ineffective revolution indistinguishable from severe depression
Sophie Haigney@SophieHaigney

I do not in fact think “adult friendship is a radical act” or whatever hanging out is actually really normal, one of the normal things you can do, don’t make it weird for no reason

What is happening. Even looking at hip-hop’s roots, it’s sociopolitical. So yes, in fact, when the political merges with the music, is appropriated, and or misinterpreted, yes, the artist should maybe say something, at the minimum. We’re in such a literary, and critical thinking crisis. This is absurd. Yes Aubrey should comment, let’s wake up.

It's only not obvious because the concept of a bucket list became so ubiquitous so quickly that 90% of people believe the term pre-dates the film so strongly that they will get mad when you point out that it does not
Sam Herbst@smhrbst

Blank Check discussing whether a movie’s premise has entered the cultural consciousness since “The Matrix” or “The Truman Show” and the answer is quite obviously “The Bucket List”

It’s really weird to watch everyone over the age of like 50 go through AI psychosis. Why the fuck would you need a bot to list/read the names of people who graduated? Who made that decision? Like what the fuck is going on in everyone’s head right now

The power scaling nonsense is just like when people started using "Filler" -a very specific phenomenon of anime production buying time for the source manga to catch up- to mean "stuff I find boring". People just making shit up.

I think that's also because a lot of people see the fight against segregation as Black people fighting to be around white people, when really it was Black people fighting for the fact that they were paying full taxes and getting half of the public services
Tammy Brown the BAP@scarytammyb

David Banner and the like glamorize how the Black American community experienced segregation. They focus on the businesses, but don’t think about the lack of access to medical treatment, insufficient schooling, and lack of access to employment that was not menial.

Y’all going to have to let go this idea that every Black character onscreen needs to be perfect and infallible. It’s so boring.
