I have observed many Somalis living abroad—some of whom haven't stepped foot in Somalia for over 30 years—criticizing our brotherly nation, Turkey. This is a nation that sacrificed for Somalia and stood by us during our most difficult times. Today, all Somalis see the fruits of Turkey’s support, especially in the security sector, which was a desperate need for the country. ​97 percent of the Somali people living inside the country are happy with Turkey's presence in Somalia and feel a great sense of gratitude toward them. ​Furthermore, regarding the few who criticize or are unhappy with the progress Turkey has brought to Somalia: keep in mind that their own people and territories have been under Ethiopian control for nearly 30 years, paying taxes to them. They have even accepted ethiopian identity cards and hold dual documentation—particularly in border regions like Balanbale, Abudwak, and Goldogob.

We know the true intentions and plans of Turkey to seize the country's vast natural resources of gas, oil, and fish stocks. This is not out of love for the Somali people, whom they try to deceive in the name of Islam and brotherhood, while their schemes go far beyond that. It is not enough for them to build an Ottoman mosque and an airport in the Somali capital to conceal their ambitions.

The country now operates eight primary vessels, consisting of six deep-sea drilling ships and two seismic research vessels. The minister stated that after completing seismic surveys in Somalia, Türkiye deployed to somalia its oil drilling vessel —accompanied by naval security—to begin the country’s first deep-sea drilling operations. “Bayraktar noted that Turkey is carrying out offshore drilling in Somalia at depths reaching up to 4,000 meters, which he described as very challenging due to sea conditions, including climate, rain, and the state of the ocean.” He added that the target drilling depth in Somalia is around 3,500 meters, with the goal o to find hydrocarbon. He further explained that the project involves deep drilling phases, with the first phase expected to be completed in the coming weeks. The overall project is planned to continue until the end of the year, lasting approximately seven months.
