@MattMcCarthy985 I've always thought baseball was higher than basketball, but you're cherry-picking ratings numbers in a desperate attempt to make the WBC more than it was. Any winner take all game will put up a bigger number

As I said after the World Series, baseball has clearly re-established itself as the number-two sport in the country, behind football. There's no debate at this point. America wants to watch March baseball more than the culmination of the NBA season. The WBC final comfortably outdrew Games 1-6 of the 2025 NBA Finals and beat the series average. Before you pin that on Thunder-Pacers, the WBC Final also outdrew Game 4 of the 2024 NBA Finals and was 500,000 viewers shy of beating the series average. 2024 featured two top-10 TV media markets, legitimate NBA star power in Luka, and NBA royalty in the Celtics. There should be panic at NBA headquarters over this, and MLB should be terrified of a work stoppage that would kill this momentum.
FOX Sports PR@FOXSportsPR

A legendary game calls for a legendary viewership number as 10,784,000 viewers watched the #WorldBaseballClassic final on FOX and FOX Deportes - the most-watched #WBC telecast ever 🏆 The 2026 WBC averaged 1,294,000 viewers across FOX, FS1 and FS2, making it the most-watched #WBC in its 20-year history across English language networks.

Travel Baseball Daily Diary: March 19th Dear Diary, today in Connecticut I saw a video of 8 year olds getting on a plane for their first tournament of the year. High school baseball teams haven’t even had tryouts yet It’s 35 degrees nobody is even practicing outside yet. My son is 8, sometimes I have to tie his shoes before school. But planes for tournaments in March. Sure.

If Texas wins this game, we’re going to have to discuss what BYU paid for this roster and for Dybantsa in order to flame out in the first round. ROI on this season not looking great.

@rationalyankee Its really not that interesting. A game 7 always does bigger numbers. The Game 7 World Series number was 26-27M in the USA

This is interesting. As much as I didn’t care a lot about the outcome of the WBC, it was undoubtedly fun to watch. You’d have to be a completely miserable human to disagree with that. There’s a lot of talk about MLB letting players participate in the 2028 Olympics. I initially thought that would be fun, but the more I think about it the less sense it makes. MLB is already generating a ton of interest with the WBC. Ratings were awesome. They had a global audience. The Olympics is only inviting 6 baseball teams to participate over 5 days. Eligibility requirements are much more intense than the WBC. Every player would need to have a passport from the country they are playing for. Team Italy was one of the best stories from this WBC, but no chance a lot of those guys could play for Italy in the Olympics. The WBC gets more players playing for more countries in a more entertaining format. It’s a better competition than what the Olympics can offer. I think the league should lean into refining what it already has in the WBC and just forget about the Olympics. Do pool play in March and the knockout rounds during the All-Star break. It would be electric.

With 10.87 million viewers on FOX and Fox Deportes, the World Baseball Classic Final outrated the seven-game average of the 2025 NBA Finals.

@BNightengale Right, it means a lot to non-Americans. To Americans, we dont care and neither do the players. We arent big about the Olympics, either. We sorta watch it for 2 weeks and then forget about it. Small homogeneous countries care. We arent a small homogeneous country

You realize the impact of the WBC championship when Venezuela catcher Willson Contreras says winning the gold over USA was more meaningful to him than winning the 2016 World Series with the Chicago Cubs
Chris Cotillo@ChrisCotillo

Willson Contreras on the WBC: "I think it’s the best experience of my life. I played in the World Series in ‘16 and it was big but playing the WBC for your country, for 37 million people, means a lot more to me."

@UnderdogMLB How bout Peralta pitches for the #Mets before they sign him. Can he handle the NYC pressure? Can he pitch more than 5.33 innings per start?? He isnt an ace but wants an ace contract

Heyman: Freddy Peralta extension with the Mets prior to start of season is "highly unlikely." Peralta is seeking a 7-8 year deal; Mets believed to be more comfortable with 4-5 years.

Worst part of March Madness is how you’re going to see the same 12 commercials over and over and over again and inevitably one or two of them are going to be obnoxious. Can we bring back Lily and the AT&T commercials? Asking for a friend…😏

Albert says #NYR's next 9/10 games are at home - M$G is going to have get creative with their ticket promotions - and where their lowest ticket offered this season was $50. Will they drop below that?

@NYCTheMiC The problem was they were winning games with Sheary in the lineup. You got to think eventually in this last month that they will play some more kids, especially if Hartford drops out of the playoff race #NYR

Maloney is losing a little credibility in his defense of the great Conor Sheary - he should be calling out Sullivan - the head coach who just last week said he wants to give younger players a chance. The golden nephew-in-law won't be here next year! #NYR

My Highschool baseball coach begged us to watch 20-30 minutes of college/professional baseball a night. I never understood it. Reflecting on it now, I am deeply grateful I did as he asked. It helped me think the game & develop baseball IQ ahead of my age. As I help coaching Highschool baseball now : The baseball IQ is seemingly getting worse for high schoolers as time goes on & the world becomes exceedingly more short form & instant gratification centric. If you’re a parent and/or young baseball player I hope you understand how much understanding the intricacies of the game will play in your favor over the long haul.

#NYR PP was on a 5-9 three-game heater, all from PP1, before JT Miller came back and bumped Perreault. 4-1 record, 25 GF. They're 3-13 since and one of those came from a Perreault setup on PP2. 0 PPP for Miller. 3 straight losses. Captain Jonathan Tanker Miller at our service.

During the Kings game I said #NYR could use a solid 3 game losing streak to make up for the hot start out of the break. And here we are! Just what the tank needed. Huge game hosting Winnipeg Sunday. Currently 3rd in the lotto race
