@Afinetheorem Couple months later (sorry, I suck at Twitter) and I'm coming around to accepting AI is a great tool even for legal services, people just don't yet know how to use it responsibly.

@amanda_hsiao @BonnieGlaser Independent voters again show the most novel finding: a majority reject Cheng’s rhetoric, but also perceive her trip to Beijing positively. Independent voters do not want Taiwan to unify with the PRC, but they may see engagement as a meaningful way to maintain the status quo.

"92 Consensus, oppose Taiwanese independence" - the slogan Xi & Cheng see as foundational for Cross-Strait relations. But what do Taiwanese think of the phrase? What about support for "One Country, Two Systems?" @poscwty and I's latest for @BrookingsFP: brookings.edu/articles/will-…

And for econs, "how firms use chatbots" isn't interesting. It's like studying the net by looking at people on usenet chats in 1994. "Humans vs AI on intellectual work is likely to be like human runner vs a Porsche in a race", likely very soon, should by analytical starting point.

My read on "normal policymaker & corp. leader on AI": mostly now they don't need to be convinced it is very important (unlike a year ago). But they still see its capabilities as today + epsilon. So just briefly, here is what even "AI is normal tech" folks in the labs believe: 1/8

Iran and the chaos of Trump’s mind Social posts by Trump are not froth atop a glass, to be blown aside in search of a cooler intelligence beneath. We need to analyse them because the chaos of Trump’s mind is inseparable from the chaos of his governance. ‘NATO NATIONS HAVE DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING’ An object that, according to Trump, fails Trump, rapidly becomes worthless. Narcissistic personality disorder makes it hard to find an object (NATO) frustrating but still valuable; disappointing but still needed. Note: a crazed neocon without a personality disorder could still say: you have failed me, but I still need you. Trump can’t. And note again: Trump speaks of NATO as though he weren’t in it. ‘THE LUNATIC NATION’ Trump evacuates Iran of its real properties. Iran becomes a degraded object. Trump doesn’t need to think about Iran - only use it as a stage to perform superiority. ‘NOW MILITARILY DECIMATED’ There is plenty of pleasure in spectacle and destruction in the Trump administration. But this phrase isn’t an example of it. It is a defensive. It’s not about breaking Iran, but about not breaking Trump’s false self. Iran must appear ruined, so that Trump can be whole. ‘THE U.S.A. NEEDS NOTHING FROM NATO’ This is a theatrical denial of need - denial of dependence on a world you can’t control. State sovereignty as narcissistic immunity. A child’s conception of sovereignty - exempt from need, compromise and exposure. ‘BUT “NEVER FORGET” THIS VERY IMPORTANT POINT IN TIME!’ This is atmospheric intimidation, common in narcissistic personality disorder. Narcissists often tell family members who they feel injured them: you’ll see what happens. The aim is not to make a concrete threat, but to insert a cloud of darkness into your head. Trump deposits a threatening atmosphere into the heads of European leaders, and being seen doing that preserves his grandiose position. President, DONALD J. TRUMP Trump’s regular sign-off is psychic repair - he re-assembles his false self in case it got lost above. Often he adds, “Thank you for your attention to this matter,” which means: despite appearances (Trump is self-aware to this extent), I am the one who gives orders, the one who runs things behind the scenes.

@Noahpinion Interestingly, 'PUA' survives as a verb in Mandarin Chinese spaces, meaning 'to (emotionally) manipulate', or even 'gaslight'.

There’s a Chinese joke (which I assume Jostein has never heard) which roughly goes: Deng went to the economists and engineers and said “how do we unfuck the Cultural Revolution” He then went to the Marxists Theorists and said “whatever those guys say, make it fit in theory”

Global poverty reduction over the past 50 years is largely due to China — a socialist market economy — lifting hundreds of millions of people out of poverty.

500 scholars sign a petition opposing a restart of Taiwan’s last nuclear reactor, while pro-nuclear groups argue the energy source is vital for the country's industries. Voters will decide in a referendum on Saturday.
