No, again you miss the point. Wheat was (by far) the main alternative to potatoes as it is the source of bread (Barley, the other main crop at the time generally went to animal feed and brewing/distilling).
Ireland exported wheat because we hadn't the ability to convert it to flour/bread in sufficient volume when the potato crop failed in successive years.
If you don't have an alternative supply of food and an over-dependency on one (high risk) crop, that is a definition of unsustainability.
People forget that potato blight/crop failures were VERY common in those days, all over Europe. The 19th century famine was simply the biggest one in Ireland, but there was a very similar famine in Scotland which didn't have the same devastating impact as their population had not increased at unsustainable levels like it had in Ireland.

The population on the island increased at an unsustainable level from 1801-41 and resources like food supply couldn't keep up. The Potato Famine accounted for 1m of the ~4m decrease.
One has to hope that the current population surge can be matched by resources.

ESB workers have arrived at an illegally built mansion in County Meath, following a legal battle spanning more than 20 years. Chris and Rose Murray made five failed attempts to get retention, and they told Amy Molloy of the Irish Independent that they feel they are being 'treated worse than the Kinahans'. They built the home in 2006 without planning permission. Speaking to Claire Byrne this morning, Rose said: "There's a warrant out for myself and my husband's arrest" over the ordeal. Earlier this week, Meath County Council took possession of the property, which was constructed without planning permission.
