We need to fix our immigration policy so we can admit the creators so they can build on American soil and create value here. In particular, it makes no sense to educate the best and brightest at Federally subsidized educational institutions and then send them home.

I’m an AI PhD at Oxford wanted to move to the US for years, but it never worked out. Maybe I can share why. To me, it feels like the US is making it harder and harder for Chinese talent to come or stay. First, Trump signed PP10043, which meant I couldn’t go to the US for any graduate school. That’s why I had to turn down my Stanford offer and come to Oxford. Later, I qualified for an EB-1A (the extraordinary ability green card). But because I was born in China, I’m stuck in a country-specific backlog that could take another 4–5 years. Meanwhile, on the other side, I’m getting 3–4 emails from China almost every week. They offer high salaries, free housing, generous research funding, and even offered an astonishing amount of money just for me to come back and have a conversation. I’ve always loved the American spirit. I truly believe my abilities could have a bigger impact there. But honestly, the whole process has been incredibly frustrating. All of this makes me wonder whether I should just give up. Why am I spending so much energy trying to go to a country that doesn’t seem to want me, when another country is doing everything it can to bring me back?

I agree with @BillAckman . We will lose the global race for talent if we don't attract the best and brightest. Especially true of the AI race against China. Talent is a bigger factor in that race than the next three or four factors combined, including chips. We should push for a bipartisan effort. I think it can be done despite the administration's MAGA wing. Who in the administration can help this lady?

Our immigration policies need to be reformed to allow the best and brightest to be educated in the USA and stay here to create value for our country. As long as their values are aligned with the long-term interests of our country, their visas should be fast tracked. Can someone in immigration help this young woman?

🚨 Rebecca Cooke, the Democratic candidate for Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District, is caught on tape discussing a strategy to re-register out-of-state college students — citing Minnesota students specifically — to vote in WI-03 using Wisconsin's same-day voter registration law.
In footage flagged by RNC Research, Cooke identifies six UW System campuses inside WI-03 — UW–River Falls, UW–Eau Claire, UW–Stevens Point, UW–Platteville, UW–La Crosse, and UW–Stout — and frames their combined student population as a major voting bloc equivalent to the entire student body at UW–Madison. Wisconsin law does permit students to register at their campus address, provided they have resided there for at least 28 days before Election Day.
The footage adds a new dimension to Cooke's 2026 primary campaign ahead of the August 11 Democratic primary. She is expected to again face Republican incumbent Rep. Derrick Van Orden, who defeated her in 2024 by just under 3 percentage points — roughly 11,000 votes — in a district President Trump carried by 7 points. WI-03 is considered a top national priority for Democrats as they seek to retake the U.S. House. Cooke has also drawn prior criticism over social media posts from her Eau Claire store that accused the city of being "infiltrated" with "quiet racism."

FYI that America’s moronic visa policy is almost certainly a factor in why Kimi/Moonshot is a Chinese startup and not an American one. The fact that we don’t staple a green card to every AI PhD completed in America is stupid. would be more logical to seize their passports and force them to stay

We need to rethink our stance to being so anti-immigrant. While correcting open border policies was necessary we are way over correcting. America needs 2mm immigrants a year. This year we are probably zero. We need both labor and highly educated immigrants. We should give green cards to masters and PhD grads from top 250 universities. It’s insane to educate the world’s best and brightest and push them out.

I think there's a lot of confusion and misinformation about Zhilin's visa, H1B lottery, immigration, and why he left the U.S.
Zhilin had many opportunities to stay in the U.S. if he wanted to. In fact, I was on an email thread with a senior Apple exec (Tim Cook's reports) asking whether Zhilin would consider joining Apple. I said that he wanted to go back to his homeland. The response was, well, we have an office in Beijing if he'd like to join there.
But Zhilin was quite determined to go back and build a startup. I remember him telling me that if he didn't at least try starting his own company, he would regret it for the rest of his life. I respect that, and he was right.
Many of my international PhD students do choose to stay in the U.S. Of course the U.S. immigration process can be quite intimidating and uncertain, even for superstar PhD graduates from places like CMU.
