She forgot to fill out a form, so men with guns arrive to her front door, where they'll put her in a cage alongside child molesters and armed thieves. Who knew making candles was such a threat to society? Where does this mother live? North Korea? China? Wrong again. America. You know, "The Land of The Free." Starting January 1, 2024, if you own a business entity in the US, chances are: you have to comply with the "Corporate Transparency Act." Have you heard of it? Unless you follow @caroljsroth , you probably haven't. My clients and I have been discussing what to do for weeks. Here are some highlights: • You must file personal "Beneficial Ownership Information" with FinCEN, which puts you on a national law-enforcement database. • It could take up to 3 hours to file, IF you know what to do. If not, get ready to pay your lawyer. • You have until 12/31/24 if you owned the entity prior to 1/1/24. You have just 90 days when you start a new one in 2024. Then, starting on 1/1/25, you have just 30 whole days. • You must file for each LLC (hooray LLC entities for rental portfolios!) • You must remember to report any changes to the information within 30 days. • Many large companies with deep lobbying pockets are exempt (surprise!) • This applies to you too, Mr. World Citizen with that fancy LLC out of Wyoming. They may not be able to drag you to jail, but they will dissolve the entity and confiscate the assets. Oh, and about those penalties. Take it straight from the horse's mouth: "A person who willfully violates the BOI reporting requirements may be subject to civil penalties of up to $500 for each day that the violation continues. That person may also be subject to criminal penalties of up to two years imprisonment and a fine of up to $10,000. Potential violations include willfully failing to file a beneficial ownership information report, willfully filing false beneficial ownership information, or willfully failing to correct or update previously reported beneficial ownership information." Once people realize the insanity of threatening imprisonment for neglecting an online form, the outcries will grow. Make sure the reps know you're well aware of where they stand when November rolls around. ULINE boxes - still going iPhone content - still going Free Shopify theme - still going Like two ad campaigns - still going Design emails and ads in Canva - still going Don't let these "gurus" tell you to have 300 plug ins, landing pages, and apps. It's not necessary. If you're creative testing forever, your product might just suck. Sorry to break the news. Beyond thankful for everything that's happening.
