Extraordinary to watch this back: a film we put out on Politics Live in 2018 which included coverage of the intimidation faced by women who protested in defiance of the aggression and who ended up winning the argument. bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06…

@portraitinflesh You should feel proud. Really proud. The sheer insurmountable complexity of completing sequential tasks is the thing I struggle most to understand with my son. I have to constantly remind myself that it physically exhausts him, in line with running a marathon for most people.

Women are not a special interest group. We are half the population. Our rights are not negotiable, and they do not disappear because someone else asserts a different identity. #WomensRights #SexBasedRights

@TybilAlper By the way, Judith: when you say “We stand by” etc., who are the “we”?

@FiLiA_charity is an organisation we all need. It has done amazing work over the last 13 years, established brilliant projects, and has given a frame for work on women’s rights in the UK and internationally. …wishwomensupportingfilia.substack.com/p/jewish-women…

A handful of activist Lords have no business undermining an independent regulator's guidance on the Supreme Court ruling. That judgment didn’t make new law, it clarified it. Overturning it would mean rewriting the 2010 Equality Act. Women’s single-sex spaces are protected and the Prime Minister has been clear that won’t change. These peers should back off.
Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

Exclusive from @Geri_E_L_Scott A group of peers is at the centre of a House of Lords plot to derail guidance protecting women’s single-sex spaces, leaked documents have revealed. The group, which includes a former head of Stonewall and one of its founder members, is seeking to scupper rules drawn up by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) by delaying the government’s process until a new chair of the regulator is appointed. A source told The Times that Lord Collins of Highbury, the government’s equalities spokesman in the House of Lords, had been involved in 'strategy development with the group Neither he nor the Office for Equality and Opportunity has denied the claim, repeatedly refusing to say whether he had met or been contacted by the group Among those in the group is Baroness Hunt, who previously led Stonewall’s “no debate” approach on transgender rights. The group, calling itself “friends and allies”, believes “the EHRC is at risk of being pulled towards more restrictive positions”, documents showed. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

theguardian.com/music/2023/sep… My album Hit Parade came out 2 years ago today, in the middle of a controversy. Having been told previously by music journalists that it was already “album of the year” when the controversy broke I was instructed by the same people to admit “ignorance” and apologise or face a drop in scores. These messages were passed on to me by my then record label, Ninja Tune. I have the receipts. This is not journalism or criticism, it’s authoritarianism. The record did indeed suffer revised scores across the board and was left off the end of year lists. It wasn’t just upsetting for me but also very frightening to see how the whole of the music media, in tandem, were able and willing to punish a work of art for the sake of activism. To say I’ll never be the same again is an understatement. Props to The Guardian for not changing the 5 star score. But the piece itself is rotten to the core. And the record was never again mentioned by them, I really hope one day that changes.

The sooner one stops chasing the fantasy of vindication, total victories and total surrenders, grovelling apologies and mea culpas, the sooner one can settle to the work of untangling the mess we're in.
