@Statford_Bridge $1.5 million to get a meeting with Trump. Does Nick Candy fancy stumping up the cash?

Our only hope is the Trump Whitehouse sanctioning Eghbali and forcing a sale. If there is a DC lobbyist Chelsea fan, I am begging you.

I don't really understand why so many people on this platform who, frankly, no offense, have no background in this whatsoever, assume that an experienced writer and an economics PhD don't know about confounding factors and how to control for them.
NiiNiiFC-BlueLionsTV@NiiNiiFC

It’s interesting but isn’t the data reliant on so many variables? Standard of league, quality of squad, injuries, etc Football is very ineffecient in many areas, there’s usually 1 component or 2 that’s undermining another moving part I don’t know, data doesn’t really move me, don’t know what I’m supposed to gain from this

@ChicagoDmitry @TheChelseaWay I recognise you’ve caveated this but this is exactly what he did! He said a racial slur because he couldn’t control what he said. He then left the audience so that he didn’t continue to do so. He tried to minimise the impact of his condition.

@TheChelseaWay I don't know the details of the story in full but I have noticed that somewhere along the line for some people having a legitimate diagnosed condition has become synonymous with absolving self of responsibility to try and manage it in a way to minimize impact on others.

@ChicagoDmitry Realistically there is no way to significantly cut your wage bill/grow your revenue without compromising success at the elite levels of football. It’s why private equity should be nowhere near. It doesn’t match any of their growth objectives.

"unapologetically ambitious" is arriving at an organisation that is among the best in the world but not quite the best, saying, "right, this isn't good enough, we need to make changes", and immediately proceeding to make everything materially worse.

@ChicagoDmitry I'm happy that out SDs fucked this up and that we haven't ended up with him. I think it's absurd that the reason we haven't ended up with him is because Liverpool convinced him rather than that we backed out at a fee which was so ridiculous.

@OlIyCFC It’s so utterly embarrassing from a club who want to be in the PL. I can take it from Ipswich because they hadn’t really planned to be there but when it’s Brentford they want to be a PL club. That means playing against expensive teams.

@ChicagoDmitry I think there are just unbelievably few value add managers in the world right now (in part because clubs have put aesthetics over performance). Arteta probably wouldn't do a better job with this squad but will win the league at Arsenal.

Everyone's takes on Maresca are too extreme. He's.. fine. He's got points that are good and bad. Does he bring the kind of managerial value add you need to win the league? Probably not. That's fine right now, because we don't have the squad to win the league anyways

@GalvinEarly @ChicagoDmitry I agree maresca was disadvantaged by the delay sub but you have to give caicedo a break at some point and if you can’t give essugo 15 mins in a game you’re just gonna sit back in and are defending a 2-0 lead then what can you do?

@TydemanGil @ChicagoDmitry I get that part. I think the game was still in the balance at that stage and control needed. Still 17/18 mins left. If he subbed Caicedo and Fulham came back there would have been outrage. I'm not arguing over the need to freshen subs, by the way.

Someone should ask Maresca about not using his full sub allotment less than 24 hours after complaining about squad fatigue and overplay

@GalvinEarly @ChicagoDmitry Yeah but he could have made a third change when he did the third substitution. He could have taken Moises or enzo off and he chose not to.

@OlIyCFC Look I can deal with spending £55 million on Joao Felix instead of getting a striker but what I can’t stand is the idea of *checks notes* a cheap loan for Facundo Buonanotte.

@ChicagoDmitry I think it’s remarkably under discussed in these conversations the extent to which the costs of renovating or building a stadium have changed since the takeover.

In fact, the humbug is that the club themselves have deprioritised moving forward on any solution for the stadium because they don't have a workable solution internally

I'm a shareholder and I'd love to vote "yes" on a proposal to either vastly renovate Stamford Bridge or move to Earls Court. Unfortunately the club hasn't presented me with one.

@ChicagoDmitry I also think the “higher ranked team” thing doesn’t make sense. The reason why premier league teams have five champions league spots and french teams have three is because the premier league is the better league so it isn’t coherent to consider finishing third in France as better

I don't know why Chelsea fans are lashing out at Dale here, he isn't suggesting anything improper happened, he's exploring how a hypothetical situation would have affected Chelsea. I think he makes a lot of interesting points worth considering
Dale Johnson@DaleJohnsonBBC

Strasbourg lost their last two games of the Ligue 1 season to finish 7th. Had Strasbourg won both to finish 3rd, MCO rules would have locked Chelsea out of the Champions League with Aston Villa promoted in their place.

@ChicagoDmitry Sure but most high liquidity assets don’t have a 10% annual maintenance cost (albeit a successful and compliant loan operation can deal with this to an extent)

Football Financial Engineering idea - players as store of value. Situation - you're a football club and you unexpectedly banked some funds (lets say by lucking out in UCL). You now have a windfall of £50m that you want to keep for rainy day.

@ChicagoDmitry Not least given the cost of a rebuild has materially changed since they bought because of borrowing costs. My guess is at an absolute minimum we don’t see any further movement until the fed rate drops by >100bsp.

Which is why the stadium solution I've believed all along they'll adopt is 4. Do nothing and kick the can down the road to future owners.

As I've said all along. There are three approaches when it comes to stadium. 1. Redevelop at present location - logistically nightmarish, financially makes no sense at all. Your breakeven on this is something like 30 years.

@ChicagoDmitry Very much one for my “Chelsea are actually just acting like spurs 2018-2023” theory. Probably looking at the right sort of profiles but paying 20-30% premiums on players who are not definite upgrades and have an exaggerated reputation because of the context they’re playing in.
