Hogan is more famous than Austin. However, if 20-30% can't name one, in a large study you're well below 9/10 or 10/10. Austin at his peak would have been 5/10 as there were studies in his peak and he was just over 50%. Today it would be considerably lower.
David Hummel@D_Hummel50

@davemeltzerWON Go up to 10 people in public and ask them if they know who Hulk Hogan is and then ask them if they know who Austin is and see how they answer. Guarantee 9 if not 10/10 know Hogan and more often than not 0/10 know Austin. Unless you follow wrestling people don’t know him

Austin was the biggest peak draw and peak merchandise seller. Hogan had more longevity. Dwayne is bigger now because of movies.
Jared James Lange@slangeug

@davemeltzerWON But Austin is the biggest draw in pro wrestling history, correct? The numbers back that up as I understand. I keep seeing a lot of people argue for Hogan, this week. Even one person told me Rock was bigger than Austin. What is actually truth? Thanks.

Not it didn’t! He just changed what he did out there but there’s so many inaccurate takes that have been repeated about Steve’s work for decades. He came back at the end of 1997 and fully leaned into the approach he had in the Bret match. Steve was always an intense, high motor, relentless type of wrestler and that existed when he was a southern style, fundamentally sound heel worker in WCW and continued into his days as Stone Cold. Go back and watch what he did in 1998 with Mick Foley. His work with Dwayne. There’s no slowing down here, his return from the second neck injury produced some of the best wrestling in his career. (The Angle matches, Rock, Benoit, HHH 3SOH) God tier brawler, projected so well, great seller, great bleeder, crazy intensity. Perpetuating these mistruths about Austin as a worker is why people continue to group Jey Uso with him and Rock as guys that are over but can’t really go like that. The only wrestlers you could EVER argue are better at the 98-onwards, WWE style PPV main event are Rock and Cena. (And gimme Steve over John)

@eggplantthree His work slowed down after injury but he was still one of the better workers his entire career

@JonAlba That’s not even true. The initial spirit of the TKO sale was that he’d still be the operator of WWE.

It’s not really relevant whether he is found guilty or not, as far as this conversation is concerned. His actions led to a federal investigation, which led to him retiring, which led to him selling, which led to Endeavor laying the groundwork for TKO, bidding, and winning.
MiketheMilkman@MiketheMilk6969

@JonAlba Vince has not been found guilty of anything in a court of law.

@davemeltzerWON All of you…ALL… of you just peddle junk food “journalism”. No nutritional value to anything you do. I’ve yet to see ONE of you say that the boys should unionize. You’re covering all of this like it’s a storyline , plain dumb mark behavior..

Everything they are saying is right. But it didnt start here. For example...i warned against 5 match PPVs YEARS ago. All they were trying to do is give you less as a fan, and its swung to the business side now where the athletes will eventually settle for less or be driven down

I bet whoever told this story to Mike Johnson thought they were gonna get brownie points for being a proud team player. But now once they’re outed (and some will stooge them because it’s wrestling) they will live forever as a bootlickin’ nerd.

A pretty majorly pushed talent was reportedly asked to take a 50% pay cut last week and allegedly did. The name of the talent is unknown as it cannot be confirmed 100% that this was the case, but the timing of that claim was interesting as it took place a day before news broke of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods’ departure. @AntEvansMMA And if it’s really happening with Roman, which I’m skeptical it is, they’re underrating how much historical context he has. It’s literally in his DNA.

The idea that WWE stars have bigger balls at the negotiating table than UFC fighters is very believable. Many WWE stars spent years negotiating with smaller promoters and built strategies for dealing with strongarm tactics. Plus, wrestling managers like Barry Bloom actually do their jobs. And, with Vince McMahon gone, wrestlers are negotiating against TKO suits, not a messiah figure who's defined the industry. Plus, yknow, UFC fighters are mostly bitchcakes when it comes to sticking up for themselves.
Wrestle Thread@WrestleThread

TKO’s master plan to slash WWE payroll is backfiring hard. I honestly believe they tried forcing Brock Lesnar into a pay cut and he just retired at Mania instead. Same with The New Day. Kofi & Xavier turned down the lowball TKO restructure and walked. Foolish as hell thinking they can treat WWE superstars like underpaid UFC fighters. Those guys aren’t smart enough to push back… but WWE talent? They know their worth and they’re not taking it.

@Tiller56 You mean like an all pro left tackle? It’s because of the tackle that they don’t have as many resources to get more skill guys. Plus, JD has proven he can win at a high level with average pass catcher. Plus, we don’t know what Chip or Antonio will be.

Here’s how I look at this. What would Howie do? The Eagles have a MID QB yet will do whatever they can to try and make their MID guy less MID. Commanders have a future superstar and IMO haven’t done enough to help him. Imagine if WE gave JD what Howie has given his MID???
Disco@discoque92

If you “don’t think the Commanders did enough to help Jayden”…what would you have wanted them to do? …draft Tyson over Styles? … trade next year’s picks to move up? …over pay for Pierce?

Bubba Ray Dudley was asked if he has advice for WWE LFG talents who have been released: "I give them no advice. They're gone. There is one talent out there that got let go that I see working hard on her own. In season two, we saw Haze Jameson, now known as Pinky Montoya out there on the independent scene. "Nobody knows why she was released, but she's trying to make it on her own in the indies and trying to work her way back maybe to LFG or to Evolve or to NXT, wherever. "But I really don't have advice for these other talents. Maybe you should have taken it more seriously. Maybe you shouldn't have put your feet up on the table. Maybe you should have shook hands. Maybe you should have been more polite. Maybe you should have busted your ass a little more. Maybe you should have cut a better promo. You've got five minutes - get over or get out. "This is not a business for boys and girls, it's a business for men and women. I'm not here to coddle anybody. I'm here to help you sign a contract with WWE, become a millionaire, make something of yourself, and help this business thrive into the future." (WrestleRant)
