@golfdinosaurrr It's meaningless and arbitrary.
I think you show respect by tying your left shoe in a triple knot. If you don't do that - it's disrespectful.

@RyanHoliday Is there evidence, like video, that “agents have been demanding to see papers?”

@RyanHoliday What is he referring to when he says “the punishment for filming I.CE. is not summary execution?”

The war has to be ended, I think we all agree.
And quite frankly, the war in Ukraine is actually not entirely about Ukraine... Our actions in Ukraine are a signal to China, showing them that what could happen if they invade Taiwan... (which would be disastrous for the world...)
We cannot retreat from the world stage. Our enemies are watching, hoping we do... Like it our not, isolationism will allow monsters to grow, monsters we will eventually have to fight...

@dillonfreed @realDonaldTrump Detailed first hand experience and a sobering insight. I wish them success but it’s not my fight.

I was in #Ukraine in December, and here are three things I found:
1) The Ukrainians would rather fight to the death than give an inch of land to Russia or Putin. More, it seemed to me that the country remains entirely committed to the fight, without any noticeable fatigue. I watched mothers, wives, and girlfriends send their men off to war with their full support. They said goodbye to their boys, knowing there was a good chance they'd never see them again, but they wanted them to go fight for Ukraine. (I even heard about a young man hiding from service—he hadn't left the room he was staying in for months to avoid the front—yet he believed Ukraine should not give a square millimeter of land to Russia.... say what you will about his cowardice, it seemed to be a near universal position to battle on.)
I should note that I did speak to one woman who said, "I know I'm in the minority here. I know we'll have to give Putin some land. I don't want to say that too loud, but I realize it's inevitable." So maybe this is something Ukrainians understand but don't want to admit... It looks likely that giving up territory will sadly be the case.
2) This Ukrainian war is easy to understand. From a broad perspective, there are no real shades of gray or ambiguity. It feels like a movie in which the sides are clearly demarcated: the Ukrainians are the good guys; the Russians are the bad guys. End of discussion. Zelensky is the noble leader; Putin is Scar from The Lion King. More yet, the USA didn't start this war, NATO didn't provoke Putin, that's almost all entirely made-up pretexts by the Kremlin to justify their attempt to reestablish Russia's place on the world stage after they ruined their nation because of the adoption of Marxism in the early 1900s. Now, it should be said Ukraine isn't perfect—good and perfect are not the same thing—the country has corruption, there is a very small faction of actual neo-Nazis, and if Zelensky doesn't allow elections after the war then he should be removed, etc. Further, it should also be noted that many Russian (and North Korean) soldiers aren't necessarily evil and have been forced into war against their will (though some Russian soldiers absolutely are sadistic animals). I spoke to a rich Russian woman in NYC the other night, and she told me, "Oh, only the lower classes go to war, if you have money you don't war. If Putin's starts to push the wealthy families like mine into the fight, he'll lose their support and his power." At any rate, because of this, I do not celebrate the death of any Russian forces. But again, I must say, zooming back out, it feels truly special to be near warriors who are unequivocally the good guys—sort of like being near the Allies in WW2. And on an aside, I can tell you that seeing Ukrainian men in uniform heading off to war, fighting for the noblest of causes, putting their lives on the line for their country, makes all the fake masculinity in the rest of the Western world stand out in stark contrast. It also makes me feel even more disdain than I already have for non-patriotic Americans.
3) The Ukrainians are psychologically robust. The Ukrainians live under constant threat but go on with their lives as usual. It's quite something to see—pure courage and a sort of acceptance that whatever happens, happens. Those not fighting go to work, school, shops, restaurants, etc. in spite of the fact that Russia is known to bomb residential areas. Americans and other Westerners have no real idea what it's like to hear an air raid siren at midnight as you try to sleep, or in the morning as you head to work or take your children to school. Even far away from the frontlines, in places like Lviv, they too are under threat and are occasionally hit by Russian missiles. Of course, it's worse in places like Sumy in the East, and Kyiv as well, is also constantly a target (Ukraine's air defense system seems to work very well, God knows how many lives it is saved). So, to my conservative friends who I've noticed have honed in on the Ukrainians going about their lives as some sort of gotcha: if you see videos or images of Ukrainians out "partying" on a Saturday night, and write comments such as, "Wait, I thought they were at war!"... don't think they aren't under threat as they go about their day. What you are seeing is a form of a bravery, a middle finger to Putin, and a demonstration of their unalloyed existential toughness.

The rightwing animosity toward Ukraine and Zelensky is insane and misplaced. It's actually rather disgusting.

@CartuneNetwerk Good points about fair trade but this is a misunderstanding of inflation. Instead you are describing a price increase. Then the question is; at what cost? There may be a good reason for the cost.
English

@RuthMJacks62297 @EdwadSouth @CollinRugg It’s a fair point. It’s best to allow ppl to clarify and then give the benefit of the doubt. As they were saying then, we are not garbage, just Nazis.
English

@EdwadSouth @CollinRugg Oh come on. Does what you’ve said, then, also apply to Trump? Republicans have a long history of “explaining” what Trump means/meant by something. A 2 set vol. of books could be written about it. Remember Helsinki & Putin, the Charlottesville fiasco, etc. to name just a few….

JUST IN: Karine Jean-Pierre says Biden did *not* call Trump supporters garbage while responding to video footage that clearly shows Biden calling Trump supporters garbage.
KJP says the video is just one big misunderstanding.
KJP: “So just to clarify, he was not calling Trump supporters garbage.”
Biden: “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.”
