@dc_lawrence Re the Econ Institute, how good is the 'Future of work unit'? - this press release says that the Econ Institute will 'work with the Future of Work Unit... alongside further work' - its unclear to me on whether it will get AISI level independence gov.uk/government/new…

The Chancellor has just delivered her annual Mais lecture. Some initial thoughts from me... 😄 I'm very pleased to see... AI adoption 🤖: most of the economic benefits from AI are likely to come from widespread adoption, rather than home-grown AI models. Reeves wants the UK to be the fastest AI adopter in the G7. New AI legislation ✂️: Adoption is impossible without regulatory flexibility. We need to empower ministers to flex regulations to allow new and old sectors to adapt to AI. Oxcam 🎓: the Government will build transport & reservoirs, expand Luton & consult on a single DevCorp (as proposed by @BritishProgress & @LabourTogether) to deliver the project Fiscal devolution 🏙️: this is long overdue, and essential for regional growth and dynamism. We should use it to fund local transport infrastructure and reform business rates / land taxes. Reforming noncompetes 🧑‍💻 so tech workers can build new companies in Britain. 👀 I am cautiously optimistic about... Closer EU relationship 🇪🇺: no one thinks we currently have the best possible Brexit deal, but closer alignment could mean ceding flexibility over new technologies and energy policy. The devil is in the detail. New AI & Economics Institute 🏦: this could be amazing if modelled on something like @AISecurityInst. Finding someone exceptional to run it will be key. 🤔 I'd have liked to have seen... Something on housing 🏘️: The Planning & Infrastructure Act is done, but the most impactful planning reform doesn't require new legislation. We need to make it easier to build in urban centres, particularly London & the southeast, by reforming building safety and National Development Plans. Lots more to do here! More radical tax reform 💼 – but I guess we need to wait until the Budget for that.

This government has the right economic plan for Britain. Stability in the public finances, investment in infrastructure, and reform to our economy. We’re changing Britain and our economy for the better. gov.uk/government/new…

The Chancellor gave an important speech! People should know about it so it's not drowned out by other news. David gives an excellent round-up, my fingers are crossed for the AI economics institute, the potential is incredible there!

Pleased to be rejoining the civil service as Investment and AI adviser in DSIT. As an exited founder and angel investor in over a hundred startups I’m hopeful I can help make Britain the place for tech and AI. It’s a part time role as I will still be carrying on my work at Oxford University and on the board of the ALB of the DfE Oak National Academy. This government has made great strides on AI and tech. Excited to get going and help!

Did you know that if you step foot in SW1 they give you a free MP follower - its that easy! It's like selecting a members bill, they give you a hat with names and you draw one. I got Dan Aldrige, pretty neat.

94% of Britain's MPs are on Twitter - I've made a website so you can explore who they follow. 🔍Search for any username and see which MPs follow them. 🏅There's also a leaderboard so you can see who has the ear of Westminster Link here: site.mpfollowers.workers.dev

I recognised a handful of scenes here, most suprisingly @isnit0 and his statue project. What we will see over the coming years is an explosion of hyperpersonalised content for niche communities outpacing the scale of existing internet fandoms that churn out drawings and animatics

It's crazy how accessible tech that will become ubiqitious in a few years time is.

I forked Claude's pptx skill to make Claude Code generate gorgeous presentations Claude can generate presentations using the pptx skill from @AnthropicAI but its output can be quite bland. Especially if you're used to the high aesthetic standards of @every. So I played around with the pptx skill, iterated it, built a design system, gave it image assets, gave it access to run nano-banana using api and added custom commands. End result? An every-pptx plugin! It takes you from an idea in your head → creating a blueprint.md file for the plan → preparing image assets using gemini nano banana → constructing the final ppt. All happening 100% inside Claude desktop app! s/o @amorriscode Now our team can use claude code to generate full-blown presentations, in the ~@every aesthetic. Check out the walkthrough below to see how it works.
