Die neue Stellungnahme der DGN zu ME/CFS ignoriert leider aktuelle wissenschaftliche Fortschritte zu den immunologischen Mechanismen postinfektiöser ME/CFS. Stattdessen propagiert sie überholte Konzepte – und legitimiert damit auch weiterhin unwirksame und schädigende Therapien. Es erinnert an die frühen Debatten zur Multiplen Sklerose, deren genaue Ursache bis heute nicht geklärt ist. Auch ihr Name ist historisch und beschreibt lediglich Narben im Gehirn. Und auch hier wurde die Erkrankung lange noch psychisch gedeutet. Erst mit der Entwicklung gezielter Therapien kam der wissenschaftliche und klinische Durchbruch. Daher braucht es jetzt dringend gezielte Therapiestudien auf immunologischer Basis. Für zumindest eine Subgruppe von ME/CFS-Betroffenen besteht hier eine realistische Perspektive auf wirksame Behandlungsansätze. Und genau wie bei der MS haben wir es auch bei ME/CFS mit komplexen Pathomechanismen zu tun.
