British Open (The Open Championship) assigns a dedicated walking Rules Official (or referee) to accompany every group. The tournament also uses dedicated walking scorers who track and transmit live statistical and scoring data for every group on the course.Because the tournament uses groups of three (threesomes), or groups of two (twosomes) for the weekend, having an official walk with every group means that tournament officials are always on hand to assist with rules interpretations, monitor the pace of play, and handle player misconduct His official was right there and said and did nothing. People acting like Argentina is some thugged out team of animals shows no one used to watch the game. Sergio Ramos was a bigger thug than this entire Argentina team combined. Real Madrid used to butcher Messi and Barcelona. People have gotten so used to this soft weenie style of soccer that was taken over to protect their product. The game has to be soft now because every other kid player costs 60m and your stars now all get bought at 100m+. Can’t be having a Ramos or Pepi butchering 200m worth of players every game anymore.

BD wasn’t singled out. He messed up. Perhaps unintentionally. And didn’t want to pay the price in strokes. His fault.

The way it often works in golf tournaments is the player is not told of the situation until he completes his round. That allows him to play mentally unimpeded. And doesn’t hold play up behind.

@ByronYork The rules are clear. Dechambeau improved his swing path. Not allowed. And the R&A ruled on the infraction. That’s all there was. Break a rule, take the penalty. Stop all this nonsense. And know the rules.

Bryson Dechambeau got hit with a 2-shot penalty at The Open today for "inadvertently" improving his lie - but forget the ruling for a second. The R&A just put themselves in a lose-lose situation, and I don’t think they realize it yet 🧵
