@UCSFI @ByronYork There's a difference between not criticizing fellow players and saying they didn't agree with the ruling. A good number of players said they didn't agree with the ruling.

@3tripsc @ByronYork They are careful in criticizing fellow players. Almost always have been. Though Tom Watson called out Gary Player very publicly and said he cheated multiple times. Give it a rest. The R&A ruled. It’s their tournament. Case closed.

It appears that some of the anti-Bryson DeChambeau commentary has softened a bit now that the British Open is over. The harshness of Friday's discussion -- "He did everything but lay down behind it or take a weed whacker to the tall grass," said the Golf Channel's Brandel Chamblee -- faded by Sunday, probably because of 1) the understanding comments of players Max Homa, Sam Burns, and Scottie Scheffler; 2) the crowd's clear support of DeChambeau; and 3) DeChambeau's continued play, even though he faded to -4 and T14. Why such a sharp reaction Friday? Some of it was certainly just a dispute about the rules, but some of it also seemed to be about LIV. A post-LIV reconciliation still seems a long way away.

@UCSFI @ByronYork If you know it all, how come numerous players in the Open Championship said there wasn't enough evidence to levy a penalty? What do you know that they don't?

@ByronYork The rules are clear. Dechambeau improved his swing path. Not allowed. And the R&A ruled on the infraction. That’s all there was. Break a rule, take the penalty. Stop all this nonsense. And know the rules.

@WekelW49133 @LIVTracking Repeatedly set his club up and down on the grass behind the ball. You are allowed to ground the club in the rough, but not allowed to do anything that improves your lie or access to the back of the ball. I don't think this should be a 2 shot penalty, but neither did Bryson.

@NeedDayJob It’s not about “what actually happened.” Their goal is not proof beyond a shadow of a doubt. The rules officials make their determination based off those same clips. It’s clear and obvious what the correct ruling was to make, acknowledging there is a lot of gray area. Cheers

Bryson DeChambeau is a Lightning Rod, and this rules issue will be dubbed a controversy accordingly. But if you know golf, if you understand the rules, and if you still value integrity being at the center of the game, you know this was a simple and correct ruling. Cheers

Radar was there on the course following the group and his judgement of the Bryson DeChambeau situation is enough for me.

That’s my thing. If video clearly showed him doing it, sure. It doesn’t. So he says he didn’t. Video says idk, how can the rules officials overrule both?

Seriously? @GolfChannel ? Why should a player "graciously" accept a penalty that they honestly feel that they didn't deserve? If someone shows me a DEFINITIVE camera angle that showed his swing path was improved then there should be a penalty. But for a commentator to state that he definitely did improve his situation is , in my opinion, more about their personal opinion of Bryson than the facts. There is no down the line video that I have seen.
