Don’t let the Super Bowl distract you from the fact that Hank Cherry won the Bass Masters in 37 degree water slow jigging a craw. Continue with your day.

Was looking over Euro weekly data and analogs tonight. This upcoming pattern screams some sort of stupid March snow event for someone further south. I’m also intrigued to see if this year will be the return of February greatness for snow lovers in the mid south. One thing I would like to see us avoid is entering back in the circle of silence MJO wise. This could disrupt long range model accuracy like it did in December through early January where our pattern randomly flipped within the medium range.

The next big thing brewing to watch is likely this weekend. Strong frontal line dives deep into Florida with the infamous 540 line going low. This shows how cold it is going to be. And why some of the models are teasing some southern snowflakes once again. Then for the east coast. Classic Nor'easter being watched as a developing low over the waters looks to be happening. Mid-Atlantic watching for some snow totals then northward as history always suggests. spaghettimodels.com

Maybe the GFS was right when it came to the South. The systems haven't really phased and it seems pretty moisture starved. Doesn't seen as amped compared to other models

@GrahamCoffeyDC @iamnuffin If you're in Northeast GA that's the area that looks to get hit the hardest with ice. I'd prepare for the possibility of being without power 2 plus days.

Can someone point me to some detailed weather forecasting for North Georgia? Like are we talking about a “grab another long bed truckload of firewood” (already done) type of storm? Or a “need an above ground gas tank to feed a 10,000 watt generator” type of storm?

One noticeable difference with overnight euro is that both the GFS and the Euro show primarily snow before switching over to a mixed bag of precip and the freezing rain is way further south than yesterday. If your a north ga snow lover you want that trend to continue.

Stop looking at that snowflake icon on your phone for this weekend's totals! 🛑❄️ Here is the dirty secret your weather app won't tell you: It has no idea what is actually falling from the sky. Look at this map. That is the European model data for next Sunday throuhg 1pm. It shows Rain, Ice, Snow, and Sleet ALL happening over the Carolinas at the various times; it's not going to be all snow. Why your app fails It sees this chaotic mess, gets confused, and usually defaults to a snowflake if the temp is near 32°. It ignores the complex vertical layers (like a "warm nose" of air aloft) that turn snow into an ice storm or cold rain. That is why my forecast is honest: "Possible Winter Storm" but "Too Early for Specifics." Apps give you a guess based on one number. Humans give you context based on the whole pattern. Ignore the forecast whiplash on your phone. We know a system is coming, but the type of precip is still TBD. Stay tuned! #cltwx #ncwx #scwx #WeatherAware #wcnc #snOMg #iceOMG

@SCweather_wx Personally being in NWGA if it doesn't trend south then I hope it trends north. I don't want any part of that freezing rain potential.

I would say it's hard to ignore AI guidance though... Especially the Euro AI. It wants to plow a LP right through the Mid South. It does have a DEEP Cad in place East of the mountains with a sharp temp gradient but this does put questions in place for areas of the South. Confidence in the Eastern US would SKYROCKET if we can get adjustments from the AI guidance with what the Euro & GFS is showing. There is also that chance the traditional models trend to the AI guidance.
