Ayesha Raza Farooq, Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, along with Muhammad Anwar ul Haq, National Coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Centre, visited a school in Karachi as part of the Polio Booster Dose Campaign, where they interacted with children, parents, teachers, and frontline polio workers. The booster dose campaign, being implemented in selected areas of Karachi from May 12–24, aims to strengthen immunity against poliovirus among children up to 10 years of age. “Additional protection for children is critical in a densely populated and highly mobile city like Karachi. Older children can also contribute to the transmission of poliovirus, which makes the booster dose especially important,” said Ayesha Raza Farooq. She urged parents and caregivers to cooperate with polio teams and ensure all eligible children receive the booster dose. She also commended the commitment and dedication of frontline workers, supervisors, and social mobilizers who continue to work tirelessly to protect children from lifelong disability caused by polio. #ProtectWithFIPV#EndPolioNow #PolioFreePakistan

This week, @WHO teams are on the ground in Pakistan supporting the Government of Sindh to protect 1.8M children (between 4 months to 10 years) from paralytic polio. They are receiving a booster dose of the injectable polio vaccine, using special needle-free jet injectors.

Zambia reached its national target, vaccinating over 3.7M children in last week’s polio campaign. Sustaining progress means reaching every child and keeping routine immunisation on track. No child should lose their life to a preventable disease.
