This is your daily reminder that there continues to be more than 50 political prisoners sitting in prison, hostages of the Ivanishvili regime and of Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin. This includes President Mikheil Saakashvili. We will fight until every single one of them is free and until Georgia liberates itself from the hands of the Putinist regime.

Yesterday, @DaliborRohac hosted @UNMGeorgia Chair @TinaBokuchava for a wide-ranging discussion on the future of Georgian democracy and its relationship with the US. The arrest of UNM Political Council Chair Levan Khabeishvili on absurd charges is yet another sign of Ivanishvili’s power grab through repression. By eliminating pro-Western forces from the political landscape, Georgia is sliding towards a Russian-style dictatorship.

The IDU calls for the release of @LKhabeishvili, Chair of the Political Council of @UNMGeorgia, who was arrested last week on fictitious charges. Under the regime of Bidzina Ivanishvili and the Georgian Dream, a coordinated campaign against all democratic activists and organizations is taking place. We urge the international community to put pressure on the regime in Tbilisi to cease these ilegal actions and restore the rule of law in #Georgia. 🇬🇪

Ivanishvili’s regime continues the destruction of the Georgian state under Russian directives. Today, accomplices of the Russian oligarch have started to enforce the Russian law, intent on eliminating non-governmental organizations. Free civil society is the foundation of a democratic state. By enacting laws copied from Putin's Russia to neutralize organizations that expose the regime, protect human rights and oversee the election process, the regime has taken another devastating step to undermine the rights of Georgian citizens. In this unyielding struggle, we express our solidarity and full support to civil society organizations that have continued to show remarkable resilience and courage in this fight for justice! We are convinced that free, brave and patriotic citizens of Georgia will win this fight. Ivanishvili's regime will have to share the fate of its allies - totalitarian Iran and Putin's Russia. In such circumstances, participation in so-called municipal elections – what in fact will be another hybrid Russian special operation - becomes simply nonsensical. Strength is in unity! Today would have been the birthday of Gia Kharchilava, Georgia’s Mayor. Gia was the lone anti-Ivanishvili mayor in all of Georgia, governing the Municipality of Tsalenjikha. He died days after the 2024 coup. We miss him dearly.
